I'm no doctor, but I can't imagine not eating properly while doing physically demanding activities to not be harmful for your body. If some players do it regardless, then sometimes some people have to be protected from themselves.

That'd be good, practices that can be dangerous for the well being of the athletes should be banned, it's just its religious nature that makes it a touchy subject.
