But that's precisely the problem, the media & Cristiano's ego. It doesn't matter if someone else is better than him for the team, he will always get the attention. And I don't see what the big deal is with wanting to see a player you hate fail, when you don't have any affinity for other Portuguese players. No matter if he's really the star of the team or not.
The problem is this tendency to pretend that football isn't a team sport.

I agree with you, but at least for me the only reason I said what I said is because of my personal dislike of the player, like I said I really don't care who the media portrays as the best. If I liked other Portuguese players then it would be different, for example I also hate Balotelli, but I like other Italian players so I don't want him to fail for the Azzurri. But I have zero reason to want Portugal to do well for any reason, and the fact that one of my most hated players is Portuguese, well...
