Ok, ok, someone can get pissed and lose his self control on the pitch and say something stupid to the ref. Should such a person be sent off? I really can't say. But someone who regulary throws tantrums on the field like a petulant 6 year old such as Wayne Rooney, should be dealt with to the severest extent of the law.
There is simply no deprecating his footballing talent and ability, but the lad is on a fast track to nowhere if he keeps up his current attitude. There is no doubt that the new rule is predicated on his on-field antics. I have lip-read the young man saying things to a ref that would make a sailor blush. His attitude has led some youth groups to cancel his name from their list of role models, and the sort of picture above isn't limited to just Eurosport. Even in Planetfootball's report of the new rule, a picture of Wayne Rooney is used.
He's rapidly becoming the posterboy of the wrong attitude to the game.
