Gianluca Zambrotta left demoted Juventus, but insists he feels betrayed by the club and would’ve preferred Milan to Barcelona.

“I am not a mercenary,” he told newspaper 'Tuttosport’. “I gave my heart to Juve for seven years and never thought I’d see two of the Scudetti wiped from my record. I feel betrayed by the former directors.”

The World Cup winner has joined Barca along with Lilian Thuram, while ex-Bianconeri teammates Fabio Cannavaro, Emerson, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Patrick Vieira have also moved on following the Calciopoli scandal.

Juventus saw the 2004-05 and 2005-06 titles revoked, the team demoted and ordered to start the new season in Serie B with a 17-point handicap for match-fixing allegations aimed at former directors Luciano Moggi and Antonio Giraudo.

This week new President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli told newspapers he was “let down” by Zambrotta and Cannavaro for deciding to jump ship.

“I was very upset by that statement,” responded the full-back. “It wasn’t fair on me. When I explained to the new directors, just the once, that I wasn’t too sure I wanted to play in Serie B, they immediately set up this move to Barcelona. The reason is they already had an agreement with the Spanish side, whereas my agent had spoken to me about Milan. I had to adapt.”

The former Bari man also pointed out the scorn aimed in his direction was misplaced following his departure.

“The fans are calling us traitors and mercenaries, but I gave everything to Juventus for seven years. The old club hierarchy really let me down and I never expected to leave Turin in these circumstances.

However, unlike Alessandro Del Piero, Zambrotta refused to criticise ex-Juventus Coach Fabio Capello for his two years at the club.

“Everyone is free to have their own opinion, but I always got on well with Capello and have no complaints. Perhaps Del Piero just needed to get something off his chest.”

Zambrotta and Thuram were on the Barcelona bench for last night’s European Super Cup, which was surprisingly won 3-0 by Real Betis Sevilla. Another former Juventus star, Enzo Maresca, was on target along with Renato and Fredi Kanoute.

Bullshit, the same goes for Buffon as he wasn't sure in the beggining if he wanted Serie B or not.

If this is true, then we have to blame the board of directors for this call but the club needed money and got rid of players with higer allowances. You cannot call of them mercenaries, it is wrong and it is for the good of the club that he left.

For instance, we have 2 hot prospects who can play in his position and will do superbly in this bright Juventus future. The same goes for Cannavaro, a real captain and the best defender in the world at the moment. It's better that he left so he can fulfill his dream. After all, a defender and a striker are different. Not much to discuss here but we can easily get a defender(youth-wise) now and turn him to be one of the best in the future. That's what we have been doing so far in the past years if I remember. Though I was expecting Barzagli to come, he would have been the next Cannavaro and for a cheap price as well.

However, Thuram's case is a different one and a much vulgar one. Insults going here, there, bashing the front wall shouting "Barca's training atmosphere rocks! But he's ageing and won't play first team much and will lose his voice if he continues shouting at us on different subjects. Trezeguet, now who wouldn't want to have one of the best strikers in the world, thank god he's staying and Juve will benifit from him in Serie B and a la Serie A. Vieira and Emerson, the most over-rated midfield in the world. Both were bad, they had their moments but we've seen our primavera do better and we lost them as well. Amazing stuff from Maresca today, can't believe we threw him out.

Everybody's talking about Maresca, but didn't he himself came in for about the last 10 minutes ?

Anyway I'm happy Zambrotta and Thuram were on the bench.

Nobody should criticize Zambrotta for moving on. He should be regarded as a Juventus Hero, as he always was when he wore our shirt. There was even talk last year that the club could sell Zambro as Chiellini looked to be a nice replacemnet and the club was very quick to deal him to Barca.

Yea, I wouldn't call zambrotta a mercenary. Heck, he was just stating the fact that he felt pissed that the two scudettis were taken away from us.

On the pitch he played with great passion and consistently and to me has been a great player for juve.

Hey, Zambo. one day you were my favourite.
It was not Juve that betrayed you. It was former management team.

What you gave to Juve is not 1% of the thing that Juve gave you and made you Zambo. It was Juve that gave you the opportunity to become a professional footballer.

And now You BS are talking about what you gave to Juve???!!!!

My love is turned to hate.

I don't criticize him because of his moving. In this conditions I think everybody have the right to leave. But I criticize him because he speaks about what he gave to Juve. I say the thing he gave to Juve is so little compared to The thing that Juve have given him
