Zalayeta to go for Samp
Wednesday 5 April, 2006
Juventus’ Marcelo Zalayeta has reportedly snubbed a summer move to Bordeaux, in favour of staying in Italy with Sampdoria.

The 27-year-old first joined the Stadio Delle Alpi outfit in November 1997 but wants to leave given his lack of use this term.

The Uruguayan has rarely featured for the Old Lady with Fabio Capello preferring to alternate his attacking trio of David Trezeguet, Alessandro Del Piero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Zalayeta was already on the verge of leaving last summer but was convinced to remain after expertly filling in for Trezeguet during his injury problems.

However, he now believes it is time for regular first team football and Juve, albeit reluctantly, are prepared to release him.

French side Bordeaux, a revelation in Ligue 1 this term, were said to be his likely next destination but he has now reportedly opted for a Samp switch instead.

Juventus netted the then youngster from Penarol, but have shipped him out to Empoli, Sevilla and Perugia on loan during his Bianconeri stay.

His exit will undoubtedly see Juventus bring in a new striker which is likely to be one of their former youth team players.

Raffaele Palladino and Rej Volpato, currently on loan at Livorno and Siena respectively, are in a good position to win a Turin recall

I would prefer Palladino but I would let them get more games in serie A and buy Suazo or Vucinic.

Quite understandable that he wants to play stay in Italy after so many years there. Good move for Juventus, for Sampdoria and for Zalayeta.

Most of them matches for him lasted only 15 minutes. I think his been great with us especially as a back up striker, pity capello couldnt use him more when needed. He scored some very important goals and has been one of the few loyal players.

If he does go, wish is the most likely case then I wish him the best

i never liked him... but after looking at his record, i guess he is someone to admire...

being on the bench for almost 8 years is not an easy thing....

Anyways.. Good luck Zala.

Good luck Marcelo:)
I agree, he was a fantastically loyal player, and Juve thank you Zala. I still remember his goal against Barca 3 years ago in the quarter final of the Champions League. Best wishes mate. Its thanks to players like him, Amoruso and Padovano, our super-sub strikers, that Juve do so well
For the future, I would like us to bring back someone from Palladino, Sculli and Volpato, preferably one of the first two:toast:

I wish him good luck. He never complained and was always a loyal player. some players complain if the are sitting two matches on the bench. Zalayeta never complained. I hope he will find his luck at Sampdoria.

I don't see official news that he signed an extension with Juve so he would leave on a free. I say Suazo is the man.

Yes Zalyeta, although not a super star has always been loyal to the team and even coming on pitch he looks determined, he always gave his best even if it wasn't good enough. Much more admirable than other so called stars who don't run for a ball lest they bruise their ego...Farewell Marcelo and thanks for your services, the fans appreciate it.
