I think X-mas technically still has 'Christ' in it...just not spelled out. I don't know the history behind it though...but seeing as X can be read out as 'Kryss' in Swedish it still sounds very similar to Christmas.

I dont know if you have seen father ted but its a scene where an alcholic priest who can only say "drink" "feck" and "arse" is being taught how to string together a coherant sentence to impress some bishops. (it does sound sacrilegious, its more a fond satire of catholicism and irish traditions, than attacking the church)
