The only reason why we haven't signed Xabi yet is because our board want Aquilani and until he sings a new contract or our board get the message that Roma wont sell him we might have to wait a bit longer

While fans shouldn't be taken into account for transfers, sanity should be. And I think it's wise and proper to respect the fans because that is what keeps the club going.

Take out the millions in shirt sales and other revenue, and you'll find yourself worse than Chievo Verona (Tim Parks style there, Greg).
You mean Hellas, which unlike Chievo is a club with tradition. It pains me to see they're doing so poorly right now.

Business organisations aren't set up as a democracy. They usually have a board of wise men, as the Greeks would say. Whereas it does sound a bit harsh for a football club, as it is all about passion, I think democracy has no place in it. Specialists take better decisions than most of us, it's simply that easy. I think a club should listen to its fans, but take decisions indipendently.

agreed and +rep! You're 100% right. On the one hand, of course, it's nice to see that a BOD hears the voice of it's fans, and that they're not only after our money. But in the end, i think those petitions and all should not be on a daily basis. I heard things going on about a petition for the signing of xabi and i must say that i don't agree with it. I mean, if it all were that easy, then secco or someone would have got his signature already; but there seem to be complications, maybe pool wanting more money and all. There are things going on which are not posted in the newspapers, and which the everyday fan does not see or know. So in the end, decisions should be taken by those who are in the position to do so. Juve is a football club, but also a brand, and besides what the fans want, our board has to look at tons of other factors (money, reputation, sponsors, ...)
If the fans want this total democratic control of a club they can participate on that 'myfootballclub.com' (or something similar)

Besides this, i think it's getting a bit too much attention. In my opinion, these online petitions are worth little to nothing, and i doubt that the stankovic-deal really collapsed because of that. It may have been one argument against his signing, but in the end, i think other factors were decisive. It's good of course for the passion of the fans, to now put in the way that 'WE' decided it.
I have faith in our board, i really do, contrary to most of the people around here, because i think they're doing a great job for now. And if, in the end, we don't sign xabi, then i'm sure there is a good reason for it and i'm sure we'll find a replacement. But i'm positive, i think we'll sign him after all; we have no competition bidders for him, he's 2nd choice in pool, barry seems to be on his move to liverpool sooner or later... i want to believe :)

Juve To Increase Xabi Bid
Wednesday 02 Jul 2008

Serie A high-fliers Juventus are lining up a £16.5million bid for Xabi Alonso, according to the Daily Mail.

The Italian giants have missed out on their primary midfield target, with Alberto Aquiliani ready to sign a new contract with Roma.

This means Juve will once more look to bid for Alonso, after previously having a £14.5million offer turned down.

The Spanish midfielder has been with Liverpool since 2004, scoring 11 goals in over one hundred appearances.

Finally our board got some senses knocked up in their heads.
Its getting pathetic to see how our board constantly tries to make bargain transfers, like Moggi did.

Finally some bid improvement. Now we might see Alonso play for us. Yay!

Hmmm, in euro it's ~20.5m.

It's not my money and we do need him. I'd hate it if we lose him for some 2 or 3m and that's why i won't object at all, but this price is unrealistic.
