    San Remo Rally
Am expecting a field day for Loeb, Martin & maybe Gronholm. This rally does not suit Subaru at the moment so am hoping that Petter grabs a few precious points.

    Solberg is out

    Petter petrol-free
    Italy · Subaru · Petter Solberg · 04/10/2003 07:56:20

The reason for Petter Solberg's Sanremo Rally retirement yesterday evening was that the Subaru Impreza ran out of fuel.

When it ran dry there were two kilometres left for the crew to complete before service and that was it. Subaru said there was a problem with the system that measures the amount of fuel in the tank.

"There appeared to be some discrepancy between the gauge in the car and the actual fuel consumption," reported a Subaru spokesman. "This discrepancy meant there was a difference of six litres between what we thought the fuel consumption was and the actual consumption."

Solberg commented: "The only thing to do is keep working hard, remain positive and work for a better result on the next event."

Good thing though is that he remains positive.

Congrats to you Febrina :) Seb is the favourite to be world champ now after a superb drive. I just hope Burns doesn't win it.

Corsica is upon us and Day 1 was pretty much to the form book with Loeb at the helm. Ford boss Malcolm Wilson predicted that Duval would get his first win here and it is already looking ominously true as he managed to finish 2nd on this day. Petter Solberg managed to make to the start after shunting his Subaru pretty badly during the shakedown. The Subaru mechanics worked all night to get the car ready mechanically but the body work was a different matter. His Subaru looked like a piece straight from the junk yard & his times pretty matched the mood as he fought hard to stay within points at number 8. Martins was fast as usual but confessed that while the car was perfect his driving was horrid - A spin cost him 26 seconds and is testimony to his words. The usual suspects (Gronholm, Sainz, McRae) were all there waiting for a chance to pounce.
Day 2 should see some attacking from all.

Oh yes, How's Petter on this Rally Corsica?
I've heard that he crashed a tree or something...

Well, I hope that Citroen and Loeb will keep the good work on this rally, this could be a crusial rally for Loeb since he has to compete with Burns.

....and Martin is the 'dark horse' as ussual :D

What a performance by Petter! :thumb: Sainz took a gamble but it paid of and he is second.

Sainz is pretty consistent while the young guns either win it or crash out so don't write him off yet. Catalunya being asphalt means that either Loeb or Marko will be favourites. Being Sainz's home turf be sure to expect some stiff competition from him. I can only hope that it rains coz then Petter will have a field day.

Loeb tried to push too hard on slick tyres and it was wet - Big mistake! He spun out of the road and almost went off the cliff. He was very lucky Febrina. Not so with Markko he also had slicks and went right off the cliff, luckily the trees held him back and no one was injured. It was quite scary though.
But the Subaru crew totally deserve the Inmarsat Star of the Rally Award for their herculean effort to put Petter's car in shape on time after the massive crash on Thursday at shakedown. Team spirit at it's best.
BTW don't you just love the way Petter goes totally nuts when he wins a rally. :D
