What do you know about our media that will make you say something so stupid as this?

Italian press will blame everyone but themselves. English press will ruin the culprits life be it Beckham, be it anyone.

Now I see our media alot and I see an equal. Opinion of how good we are and how bad we are. Praising players and slamming players. I fail to understand why some members on this board are keen to spread the myth that someone is feeding you.

We praise our team? It's called national pride, maybe you don't have that. Of course we all get behind our teams and hope for them to win, of course some people will get carried away and be over optimistic. We can do that because we have won big games, we have had amazing moments and we have got a chance to win it. Big deal.

Fantastic post. I was going to continue the argument in the other thread but it got closed. Its the people jumping on the bloody bandwagon that I can't stand - how on earth would they know what the British media is like, I mean do they read the Sun everyday too? I have ten times as many English tv channels as anything else. Half the newspapers here are English. Believe, me, it's tough to miss it.

also what bothers me, its when people say that english think that they WILL win the cup. ok, dont read english papers, dont watch telly bar bbc and dont check the websites. but do they really say that english with definitely will win the cup. there's nothing wrong with hoping to win, they sure are capable but the way andy, burke and david del piero put it in other thread is quite ridiculous.

I didn't start the thread because I wanted to bash England, I started the thread because i thought it odd that in 40 years, England had not even been in the final of any major tournament.

Now what do I know about English media, well I know this, I am sitting here watchin Sky Sports News right now, and the Interviewer was just interviewing Franky the Lamp, and he said, "Now that you lost to Denmark 4-1, do you think that it will burst the bubble of us winning the World Cup next year?"

Now you tell me what the hell THAT guy is talking about.

Did it also occur to anyone that this is your worst international defeat in over 25 years?

Truth to a point, I hate English football, but that is the extent of my hatred of the country, I have been all over England, I love the country.

I don't see anything wrong with my statement. "What I have seen thus far" has been exactly that, from England supporters I have chatted with in the States to Tim Park's book "A Season With Verona." I was not talking about the press per se, because all media can be biased and fvcking stupid. See ESPN in my country.

See, now that is the problem. I love football very much and I enjoy watching multiple leagues and programs from different countries. In the United States English football is given priority clearance because ESPN as well as other media outlet's football factions are controlled by British football fans. There is an incredible bias towards English football in the States, and to nourish my love for the game I have to read articles and watch football programs that have an English slant to it. But one must realize, unless you are actually a fan of English football and English football only, that the slant can become a bit annoying at times.

My beef with the football media here is the fact that their biased coverage gives wrong information to prospective American soccer fans who do not know any better and believe what they are told. If they are told English football is the best brand of football in the world, they will hopelessly believe what the media tells them and there goes another new fan of the EPL who can't look at football objectively because the only way he knows about it is through biased coverage. The media biased coverage also tries to take away from leagues it does not like simply by not giving decent impressions of the specific league and even by not mentioning it during world football programs.


Now, for the topic you have posed here, FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN...which includes the English supporters in the States that I have met at matches, they really tend to over-do the expectations of their country at the World Cup. If that is just simply proper support of their team, I have nothing against that, however when you sit down and have a conversation with them or just a standing convo for a moment they seem to continue to give the "we're gonna win it speech" that becomes rather annoying. I have witnessed and taken part in discussions such as that several times in my life.

So do you think my comments are unfair? I certainly don't. Just like you stating all Italians are womanizing dickheads before the qauint little line "from what I have seen." The thing is though I stated the line right from the start, and this isn't an attack on a whole race or nation.

I'll be honest, I don't like the biased English football crap spread in my part of the world and it indeed pisses me off. However, I still watch the EPL and take part in that type of discussion because I don't hate English football, only the idiots who spread biased views of it around the world and the EPL marketing specialists. Shame because almost every other aspect about England I enjoy and admire.

Sky Sports, BBC, ESPN (whose football faction is controlled by English nationals), other former English football commentators who make their living in the US now, online versions of different English media outposts.....yeah, I think I get enough of it, thankyouverymuch.

You don't seem to get it here. Why would I have something against England, the country? I have explained myself time and time again that I have nothing against England and in fact I like many aspects of their culture and football culture, too.
