Because Domenech is one of the few managers who believe in a system and the 4-2-3-1 system which is sorely missed from modern football has always been France's finest performances.

Using second-rate players such as Malouda, Ribery and Zidane(???) in those roles behind Henry is much better for a team than to flood it with supposed better players such as a Trezeguet or Saha.

well if he has to play in that 451 system then thats where he could play, he is not very good in that position as a target man, actually useless....playing him there instead of malouda is better imo, but that wasnt even tried by domench before

In fact bet on the final being Italy vs. France. Italy taking the lead with Del Piero later coming on missing a hatful of chances to wrap up the game only for Wiltord to equalise with the last kick. Trezeguet to seal it in extra-time. :p

finest ? i saw them playing well in two games in this world cup, against spain and brazil....it wasnt due to the coach, henry is always offside and out of position, not contesting any headers, ribery and malouda r not cutting inside to provide some runs...if it wasnt for the world class players on the field for france they would've been out by now

trezi or saha would be ideal for that system but where r they ? on the bench ofcourse cuz domench likes the lyon players more, ffs the emergency player which was govou played more than both of those players who were chosen from the begning

from the clips I saw, Lennon seemed great. I wonder why he didn't start ahead of beckham in the first place.
Lennon's main asset is his pace. It was clear to see in the few minutes he did play however that his decision making has still to be honed to make him excel at the highest level, which of course he will in due course.

Any player with pace as vital to his game as Lennon is best served as a substiute to out run tired defenders, which he's done in the time he's played. You can hardly drop England's number one provider and dead ball specialist for someone so inexperienced. Becks did aright on the whole anyhow, not the main issue really.

Should he have ever been made captain, no I don't think he's the right sort of guy but its not his fault.

he scored a perfectly right goal but was dissallowed for offside, and i thought he did well considering he wasnt playing regulary before that game at all

Perhaps awful was a bit harsh, I just ain't ever gonna be a fan of a player like that. Also when you've got Henry next to you youre gonna look pants most of the time

How would Saha or Trezeguet be perfect for that system? Henry only ever plays alone upfront. The best team of the last few years (Brazil included) was the French side in the build-up to WC2002. A 4-2-3-1 with midfield and attack of Vieira(Makelele), Petit; Wiltord, Zidane, Pires; Henry. Of course we were robbed of that team which would have walked that WC with Pires' injury and then Zizou being injured after a Champions League winning performance.

After the mistakes in 2004 with Santini's 4-4-2 with Trez/Henry fiasco. Anyone remember Rothen anymore? The 4-2-3-1 France are playing now is a joy.

I like England's 9-0-1 when Rooney was on the field and how it changed to 9-0-0 later.
