Same tier. All three teams imo. I wouldn’t call Italy > Germany. But likewise with the reverse. Those 3 teams are the most successful in World Cup history and in a tier of their own. Differences in goals scored or semis played don’t mean much imo. Now if Italy keeps failing to even qualify they are going to eventually lose that top tier status.
Goals scored doesn't mean much to me as well, but the numbers of finals and semifinals definitely do. It shows consistency, and no European nation comes close to the Germans in that regard. It shows that they're always (until recently) up there.

They're all the same tier to me as well, I just think Germany is a notch above Italy everything taken into consideration. Just like when comparing clubs in Europe who's in the same tier there's still often one or a few there's slightly above the rest.

If we exclude 18, 20 and 22 and look at the last 50-60 years, no NT has been anywhere near as consistent as the krauts as I remember it. At least not European.

As much as Italian WC fanboy but with regards to WC play without looking at historical stats Germany >>> Italy. Didn't Italy win a couple a long, LONG time ago? Probably wasn't
as many nations participating?
