I can already see some parallels between Portugal 2016 and this Argentina lol

- - - Updated - - -

Nigeria bottled it. Especially Ighalo :sergio:

Still France-Argentina in the next round should be great
Both them and Iceland bottled it tonight tbf.

Their luck is going to see them ride all the way to the title. They remind me a lot of Portugal winning the Euro
:agree:

Come on now that can't be a penalty. You're basically saying anything that hits the hand is a penalty. It comes off his head straight to his arm in a microsecond.

If he played it straight with his arm it's a penalty but not with such a deflection from his head.
They gave a pen against Portugal in a similar situation yesterday and that was less convincing than today's pen. Both times VAR was used and the outcome was different.

It's completely different because Cedric is stopping an opponent's header with his hand. He is going up willingly with his arm in a dangerous spot to stop a header.

You have to give a penalty there because otherwise defenders would challenge every header with their arms around their head and claim innocence when it hits it. This is not explicitly stated in the rulebook but has become a custom of sorts for all referees. The handball rule is completely vague and ambiguous so referees have adopted customs to help the situation.

Now if you are all alone under a ball with no attacker in sight and your own header glances your arm it's completely different.

So Argentina could face Portugal in the quarters.....

Expect Portugal and Argentina to have some very questionable referee decisions which Tuz posters will brush off as normal events.

Would no doubt be the most viewers match in football history
