I think it's a little weird, but honestly I don't have a problem with that. The players themselves I don't necessarily have a problem with, they're fun to watch sometimes and always give their all. But the fans are just insufferable. They're basically Turks, hard to decide which is worse.

Russian VAR is better than our VAR

It's so much better than Serie A's VAR. What I am always unhappy about is bad replays and total unclarity after they use it in Italy. Here in the the World cup they show uncertain moments from all possible angles so you can decide what is what. They also take decisions much faster.

It's the same people and the same methods as in serie A. The difference is (as Powis mentions already) that in the WC the TV viewers get to see everything the VARs see in the video room, while in serie A the viewer is only given an angle or two. As for the speed needed for a decision to be taken, it's no different than it was in the last third or last half of serie A, when the officials got used to the new technology and things went smoother compared to the start of the season.

What's the difference between Serie A VAR and Bundesliga VAR? Is it only that the decision is taken by the VAR referee in Bundesliga and not the on field one?

I’m a big proponent of VAR. it works on every other sport and helps to make for a more fair game. And as for the pudgy TV watchers, I don’t get it. They’re the audience and in the end the reason these players have a job.

I'm a proponent of VAR too. Resistance to change will mean its going to be hard for football fans, especially those of us who have been watching football for a long time, to accept. But I think even if its still subjective, there will eventually be less glaring referee mistakes than without it. Also, I'm sure as refs get used to it more, it will become a little more effective with time.

VAR is still subjective, but it's an improvement as at least the ref gets to see it from different angles. He also get a little bit of breathing time to make his decision. Ultimately we as fans will just have to accept the ref's decision after VAR review (unless of course the mistake is so obvious you'd have to think of bribery). Personally I find it much easier to accept these calls even if I disagree with them, because of the aforementioned reasons.

Btw pretty interesting to see Brazil get penalized by the ref yesterday. That does not happen often.

Completely agree. What people need to understand is that refereeing decisions are always going to be subjective, but there is no doubt VAR will reduce the error rate, and that has to be a good thing.

Ya, strange one the Switzerland goal, you'd have thought the ref would at least have reviewed the video, if he did, he would have probably given a foul. It was blatant IMO.

Glaring or not, England are going to complain. They always do. Fuckers bitch about Italy and Spain being sore losers, but they're always the first to complain about a call that wouldn't have made any difference at all. Horrible team, horrible fans, horrible attitude.

I like the BBC for all non-England games though.
