He plays for Liverpool.

Let me put that in context ...

There are some die-hard Arsenal fans, with a famous YouTube channnel, broadcasting from England's games in Russia. They seem very pleased that Harry Kane is scoring for their country. Rivalry postponed.
Meanwhile, there are Liverpool Blogs wishing the England captain nothing but failure - because he once scored a legitimate penalty against them, and was Salah's main competitor for the PL Golden Boot. I don't see this from any other PL teams' fans.
What's wrong with that? Rooting for somebody you despise 365 days a year merely because he was born in your proximity? Tribesman simpletons :baus: GRUG PROUD GRUG GRUG GRUG

I suppose then if Afghanistan (assuming that's your homeland) qualified for the World Cup and your best player was from another Italian team, that wasn't Juventus, that you'd want him to fail whilst playing for your country?

Maybe. I feel like he did have an incredible year though.
He did. And part of me is glad the media attention had been on Salah and the 'will he won't he play' narrative. That's the sort of focus they usually apply to our national team (e.g. Beckham / Rooney), and I think we're benefitting from a more relaxed build up this time.

I always like to see Hendo thriving.;)

That said, I hope Salah never plays for Egypt again.
