I was always taught that the keeper should play the ball to the side when passing from the back due to the risk of things going wrong when you go centrally. Obviously if the wide players are marked and middle player wide open then that is different. But you could see the pressure Bentancur would be under.

However, Bentancur had time to react and if he doesn't play a no look pass to the keeper, there is no issue. The pass put him under pressure but he is at fault.

i do appreciate the effort, but even if picking danilo would have been a safer route by tek, bentancur had plenty of options there, and he picked the 2nd worst one: a short and slow backpass, when there was a porto player between the two of them. absolutely suicidal.

Tek was no genius there, he passed to Benta under pressure in the first place, with Bentancur under pressure he didn't offer himself as an option and when Bentancur made the "pass" he hesitated to get to the ball. Sure, that was criminal from Rodrigo and the goal is mostly him, but Woj, our modern, ball-playing goalie, should've done better there as well.

In modern football, teams rarely do goal kicks any more because they don't want opponents got the ball and quickly attack. So ball playing goalkeepers usually pass to CBs or DMs. But we have seen so many goals resulting from failed backpasses. It's like playing with fire, it's bound to happen.

More like 5% Tek 95% Bent..Tek made a stupid pass yes but that idiot is not under immediate danger where his only option is to pass back..all the moron has to do is control, turn around and carry the ball out or hell kick it in the stands if necessary or if you get unlucky at least you'd have to be challenged AWAY from goal..but NEVER does a player pass back to keeper with opposition closer to your keeper than you are.
