He was left back for England, just an attacking one. Generally there shouldn't be a problem with him LWB as he can run and cross the ball well, it's just that often you have less space in that position, as you are the furthest wide player forward. He likes to make both overlapping and underlapping runs around his team mate in front of him, which Asamoah for example does not have here.
he was basically a wing back given the space he was allowed to roam

Baines and two wingers

----------------Buffon
Licht--------Barza-----Chiellini------Baines
Vidal----------Pirlo/Pogba------Marchisio
RW---------------Tevez---------LW

we win the cl jk but that would be a very good line up depending on who the wingers are

Right, I've been thinking a bit about you as a poster. Either you're a "Martin on stereoids" aka "Master of impossible to understand humor" or you're really, really or really stupid.
I honestly dont care what you think and you base your comments of like one comment. If you dont want to see my post block me.

kolarov, coentrao, Marcelo, ideally Baines, and at worst Evra (anyone who is good going forward) so that we have both options of fielding a defensive wing back like asamoah when we need to or an offensive wingback like the guys aforementioned.

As far as a pirlo replacement or rotation player I can only think of Alonso, Pjanic and Hernanes.

I am sure there are other and better candidates out there I am only speaking from memory.
Without selling anybody, the only names we can afford in that list is Alonso ,Evra and Kolarov. And maybe Hernanes but thats a massive IF because Lotito doesnt sell cheap.

Are players like Alonso and Kolarov that big of upgrades though ? Really ? Not to mention we'd be increasing the average of the squad even further.

@Cheesio ,seems like Cabella would cost around 18m euros.

Alonso, Kolarov/evra, Bonaventura/Kuyt/Valencia is the bare minimum not the ideal scenario. Ideally we would add to them another top striker on a cheap deal.

If we can't afford the big guns, just invest in youth, and trust in the youth setup that we keep pumping money into year after year.

No point in recruiting "golden oldies" for 2-3 years as a stop gap solution. Get our finances in order, until we can finally afford one big purchase a year (a purchase that can actually make a difference).

bained rejected bayern munic and you think he is going to join us? probably not. i would go for a younger option like alexsadro from porto or santon from newcastle (he'll be quite cheap as newcastle are doing poorly).
