In the last couple of years we've gotten Vidal & Pogba, and missed out on Rodriguez (longer ago), and Veratti. Pretty fair success rate.
I was thinking partly of James, and on Hazard, Ronaldo & Cavani. All players ready to sign, but last minute calls (and a chilean guy named Salas) changed that. Imagine Iturbe being sold to Real og Barca for 75+ million in two years. Would jsut be so typical :D

and btw, it's not a critique of Marotta and our transfer strategy, i think we are doing fairly well

How do you know Tottenham want to keep Lamela?

Shaqiri played a total of 26 games for Bayern this past season. How many did Lamela play?
Lamela has been injured. He has expressed his intention to stay at the club himself and the club said they still trust him and find him an important part of the future.

Bayern would keep Shaqiri if it was only up to them i believe. I think they believe he will be a great player for them in the future, but when he doesn't want the bench, there is not really much to do, since he is not ready to start ahead of Robben, Ribery, Müller, Götze at the moment. I wouldn't really put to much in statistics, since they often hide some important factors

I think we will know about Vidal when his holiday is done. If he starts training with the team i don't think we have sold him, that would be weird for United to accept that he doesn't get the pre season with them. But if the rumours about us already having struck a deal and just waiting to make it official are true, then i don't see him going back to Vinovo when his vaca is over.
Agreed. If he leaves, he knows it already and it would be senseless to start preseason with us again.

So if he does, he's probably going to stay.

Now I really think Shaqiri is pretty attainable. Just get him ffs.

I'm not sure he will stay, but it would be 100 % that those "we already have a deal"-rumours are BS. United could always come with a 80 million + offer in the end of the mercato, when nobody wanted to join them and they are still desperately looking for an upgrade to Fellaini and not-so-Cleverly, and then we might sell him because it's simply a huge amount of cash. But i agree with you that the probability of him staying will be high granted he joins pre-season with us

I think some reassurances from Vidal is required at this point. He keeps on saying he is enjoying his holiday and will sit down with the club when he returns. This doesn't sit well with me because if the club is going to sell him or if he wants to leave himself...we need reinforcements and have limited time to make those happen.

I would hate to think Vidal returns with a day left in the market and says he wants out, we cash in and don't have anyone to replace him.

Surely the club and Vidal must be communicating behind the scenes but still...we are running out of time.
