What fee is a major signing ?
I think in terms of amortization/depreciation costs, for me a major signing would be around €6m+ amortization expense per year. For instance, if it's a 3 year contract like Tevez then €18m+ is a major signing which is what I imagine a signing like Robben would be like. if it's a young promising player with a lot of potential or established players like Sanchez (26yrs or younger) on a 5 year contract then €30m+ would be a major signing.

think Chelsea for instance, they spend a lot the last few years because they are buying players aged between 20 and 23 years, so they are looking at a 7-8 year project and spend accordingly. If Juve is buying 27-28 year olds then Juve is buying for projects that last max 4-5 years so Juve can afford to spend relatively less imo. Madrid is another example, they signed CR7 and Bale on 6 year contracts, that spreads the transfer fee over the years and reduces annual expense, one can give long contracts to spread the expense when you buy players younger than say 25 years old. basically I am saying that transfer fee alone doesn't reflect financial capability.

Hopefully we won't strike a deal... and selling Quag would still mean we would have to come up with 20M more to buy him...
True, and I am not saying he is a must for us, but selling Vucinic and Quag would leave us with Tevez, Llorente, Gio and, if we get him, Lukaku, which is more then enough IMO.
And for the money of Quag (6-7 Meuro) and Vucinic (9-10 MEuro), you'd only need to add 5-10 MEuro and you have a young, talented striker that can either stay for a long period, or get sold in a few years for much more then what you bought him for.

You don't want the: He's to old, he is passed it,he is injury prone, he is dutch @swag ect ect bro. Believe me. He can score 30goals a season but if he gets injured one time you will see those comments.

We should be looking at Ciro atm, the kid has alot of potential.

The Chelsea story doing the rounds is basically that they'll have to sell before they buy, on Abramovich's orders. Hazard has even been included in that, as well as Oscar, plus all the strikers (Eto'o, Ba, Torres), as well as Lukaku, and potentially Courtois.

At this point it seems like a ridiculous story, but you could certainly see all the strikers plus Lukaku being sold to make way for 2-3 quality ones. It's debatable if we have a chance at Oscar, because if Chelsea are looking for cash to spend we are way behind potential other clubs.

I think we will redeem Osvaldo. Likely not for the 18m or so that was set at the start of the loan. I would trust Marotta to haggle that down seeing as Southampton clearly do not want him, and he hasn't exactly been lighting it up here. Things that Conte has said in interviews indicate to me that we'll push for a permanent move at a reduced price.

I can also see us exchanging Quagliarella for Lulic with Lazio. Possibly with some cash in there as well, but both teams plug a gap in their squad and Lulic would allow us to play a back 4 as well as moving Asamoah to the centre. Meanwhile we look to be picking up Menez for free. In order to make a 433 or other "wing-based formation" we will need an additional backup RW, though. I think it will either be Cuadrado or Cerci. Neither Viola nor Toro will want to give us a good deal though, and I think Cuadrado would be a better fit for Conte's 433 while potentially coming at a lower price. I could see us swapping Isla for Udinese's half of Cuadrado, and paying something like 20m for Fiorentina's half.

That is a steep price to pay, sure but;

1) It's Fiorentina we're buying from
2) Since, in this scenario, we will be swapping an unwanted player for his other half, we could consider the 20m his whole fee, in a way
3) What he brings to the squad is something we've been missing since Pepe's injury

The total outlay for these players will be relatively low and will give us so many more options tactically without giving away any of our current key players - obviously allowing us to retain our current style of play when called for. As for a 433 including these new players;

Buffon
Licht Barza Chiellini Lulic
Pogba Pirlo Vidal
Cuadrado Llorente Tevez

Storari
Caceres Bonucci Ogbonna Asa/Pelu
Marchisio Asamoah Padoin
Menez Osvaldo Giovinco

Not too shabby at all. Of course this will be Conte's 433, so the LW will be acting as more of an SS and the RW will be more of an RM. I think it could work, and would bring out the best in Giovinco and we would hopefully see some of that excellent form he had at Parma. The fact that we'd be buying from within Serie A including a free transfer and two swap deals makes this plausable to me.

Any thoughts?

Chelsea surely doesnt have to sell oscar for that ??
Ever since Chelsea came out and said the De Bruyne transfer effectively financed the acquisition of Matic, the media has had a field day making up rumours about them selling basically any highly rated player on their roster to finance moves for strikers. I doubt there's any real credence to such rumours at this point.

It won't happen. We won't get Cuadrado unless we overpay a huge amount. Also Vidal plays on the right and Pogba on the left. Menez isn't coming according to agents saying we don't want him.
