I think a lot of people would have a different opinion of Bonucci and a number of the other players mentioned if you were watching all of them with as critical an eye as you watch Juve players with.

Mistakes made also live rather longer in the memory if they've caused you severe emotional trauma due to being made by the defender of a club you support.

Every game he makes at least one blunder, we can do better. We should get better and it wont be difficult to find someone. Tackling, positioning, anticipation, all traits necessary for a defender and yet Bonucci falls short in every single one of them. Sell.

Here's a rough list of players I think are better than Bonucci, or are considered to have the potential to surpass him

NOTE: I 'm not saying they're World Class. And it's in no particular order.

Chiellini
Barzagli
Benatia
Castan
T. Silva
Pepe
Ramos
Pique
Luiz (He's a more technically sound Bonucci basically)
Kompany
Vidic
Mangala
Nastasic - Potential
Manolas - Potential
Marquinhos - Potential
Cahill
Terry
Koscielny
Mertesacker
Miranda
Howedes
Luisao
Hummels
Subotic

There's a few i'm forgetting as this is done in a rush

Now I fully expect people to counter with "Lol Bonucci is a 3x champion and Italian international herp derp" Now if that helps you, so be it.

But I personally don't care, and it'd take a lot to convince me that list is wrong. Bonucci is so error prone, so clumsy and can't even use his damn height to defend crosses well enough. He's tall and slow, weak and clumsy. He has decent organisational skills and pretty good passing.
No offence, but the funny issue is that both of you have limited knowledge to what makes a defender good, yet criticise Bonucci.

Apart from Benatia, there is no better cb outside juve in italy. Says enough.
I think you misread my post

I understand there's a bias against players who screw your own club

But really from the established defenders i've listed I can't see any i'd take Bonucci over really. Myabe you could argue a lot of them wouldn't work in the way Bonucci works for us in the 3-5-2, but that's down to our system and not the abilities of the defender.

Yeah but Zach that's implying Bonucci is actually a good defender because he's among the best in Serie A. But football does not revolve around Serie A, that's like arguing Zapata is a beast because a vast majority of countries around the World don't have a defender as good as he is

It means nothing, there are plenty of defenders out there who are better than Bonucci, most of them aren't World Class yet finding an upgrade for a player doesn't mean you need to buy some elite talent.

Seems like only those interested in tactics, can value Bonucci.
Wich is great, since our coach is all about tactics.

It's always him... it's incredible. When I was watching with my bro and dad I kept saying 'that was surely Bonucci's mistake' when there was a fuck up and it turns out to be true in 9 out of 10 cases. Not only he fucks up almost every single game, but it turns out to be a conceded goal in the end.

The guy is simply a walking disaster and should be sold asap. I will highlight 2 things again

1) it doesn't have to be a WC player that should replace Bonucci, even a lesser quality will be great, or just better than him

2) he's not supposed to be here especially if we're playing 4 man defense

i have been under such stress with the transfer stories about my fav player, i so don't want him to leave, i have his name printed on my juve shirt. how are you so sure he is staying, the press keep making stories about him like the never ending story...

Latest news coming from Sky Italia is that newly oil rich AS Roma are leading the race to sign Vidal. They spent £85,000,000 last season on transfers hence their 2nd place finish

No credible rumor so far, only media filling their pages with rubbish. Marotta and Agnelli stated that our best players are not for sale. I prefer placing my trust in these guys than tabloids.

Defending Bonucci because he fits our old system is nonsensical. There's no magical rule that says we must make room for Bonucci.

He's been an absolute liability countless times, thankfully we're in a league where most teams have 1 35 year old man up against our entire back 3 with his team busy camping outside of their own box. Against quality oppositon his blunders would be exposed tenfold.

Its extremely simple to see why i said that.

We live in the worst generation of football in history. There is not a single good defender anymore. Juventus can grab the best centrebacks in italy, but outside italy, they are quite simply outcompeted.

Of your list, few would do better then bonucci here. Some would, and are absolutely impossible to get.

And for me, centreback is the most important position we need to look at, but there simply is nothing we can get apart from Nastasic perhaps. Unless Italy starts to produce an excellent centreback youth talent, be fucking happy we got bonbon.

And try to goddamn look at the times where his actions save us points, instead of the concentrationlaps he sometimes has.

It comes to the point where I'm not angry at him anymore, but only laugh at his continuous blunders. His passing was supposed to be his best trait, but yet he screws up even in this department, often leading to some dangerous openings for our opponents. Worst starting CB I've seen in Juve since I've started watching them and next spring it'll be two decades.
