Gomez, and to a lesser extent Higuain are CF's. Higuain can be deployed as an SS, or even on the wings, but he isn't as effective playing those roles. Gomez is a pure poacher, and has absolutely zero ability outside the box when it comes to creating chances, getting others involved, and facilitating play.

We looked very predictable in some games in the CL, and for that we need someone who has that aura of unpredictability, who can create something out of nothing in the attacking third (Zidane, Nedved, and DP used to be those guys for us). Hence, Tevez, or even JoJo would be ideal.

Just close Tevez and move on and end all debate. He's all we can afford. Enough making a joke of ourselves waiting on other high profile targets on our terms.

DP84, i know youre new and all, but you're soon going to have to decide which side of the fence youre on. Gomez is overrated because Marrotta would not be able to close him. And Fiorentina just might, while we chase Higuain who is also a finisher, Gomez makes no sense coz we already have Llorente. Higuain on the other hand is a very intelligent move.

It's disappointing to read about us in articles and comments now. At least the calciopoli comments were/are uninformed ignorance, but thanks to Marotta we are known as cheap and a club with no money that can't close deals.

And some dare to say Lewandowski and Higuain are world class but not Gomez.

Better in terms of goals scoring which implies better movement off the ball and better positioning as well as higher composure and finishing. His goal scoring swallows that of Higuain and Tevez combined.

Why cant they co-exist? because they are both big guys? I thought the consensus here was that Llorente is a build up and creative kind of guy not a goal scorer. Because if he is a goal scorer.. his stats are not that good.

Creative in a way to hold up the ball nicely and bring others into play. Neither of them can't dribble past defenders and that's what we need. And how Gomez scores most of his goals? Bayern have very good if not WC wingers. We would need to change our game and sign quality wide players as well. In 442 yes I can see them playing together. In 352 unfortunately not. Have we made mistake last summer? Well Gomez wasn't avavilable back then.
We need SS who is able to drift to the sides occasionally so the space can be opened up. Someone who can drag a player or two. Like Vucinic and Gio do it at times. But again they are not effective enough. Jojo, Tevez those types of players.

The same thing applies to Higuain if Gomez can't play with Llorente. And I wouldn't spend 25m to play him out of position just coz he can play out wide.

You've got a point but it applies to Higuain too who isnt much of a dribbler either. Jojo and Tevez are the ones that can dribble past a player or two to score a goal.

But I still hold that if we are creative enough to have Matri, Giovinco and Quags score more than 10 goals each then a killer like Gomez will score over 20 goals easily. His superior movement will make it easier for our players too.

He has predatory instincts in front of the goal. Excellent movement off the ball. Definitely doesn't get enough credit as he should be. We'll see with who we end up.

Correct. If anything, they need to sign all the most promising youngsters out there and they have the wallet, league and history to lure the best youngsters.

Mario Gomez is incredibly undervalued here. Our problem in attack has always been finishing off chances rather than creating chances. Everyone here says Llorente isnt really a goal scorer but more of a creative target man. Who is there to complement him better than Mario Gomez? His goal scoring stats are only bested by Ronaldo and Messi and he is right behind them. He is very experienced and has scored loads of times in the CL. He is only 27

Gomez is pathetic. I remember during the Bayern vs Chelsea final, i told my friend who is a Die Hard Bayern fan that Gomez is a choker. He needs alot of chance to convert one. They lost the game , and i told him unless you change your CF you not going to win. In comes Mandzukic, and the rest is history. Please no Gomez.
