Bayern were in similar situation where they received many offers 4-5 yrs ago for their players but they rejected all of them and look where they are now with pretty much the same set of their key players intact.

If we were where we were 3 years ago maybe. It makes more sense to sell him for 40M when you have so many holes to fill. But now? No thanks. We have arguably one hole and that is a top class SS.

If you sell Chiellini to fund the SS, you're just swapping one hole for the other. Strikers are SO overrated in terms of importance. They are a function of the team ultimately. They can be frozen out if your team sucks, defenders can't. A striker is the last piece you look for when you build a team. If your team can create 100% chances game in and game out, you can find someone to put them in the net. Even with our "crap" strikers we led the league in goals.

Add onto this the fact that Chiellini, himself, is of a rare breed nowadays. Not only does he play an important position like CB but he has the capability to actually rise to tremendous occasions to completely shut down top strikers. It is so, so rare to find a CB that can physically pound strikers and keep up with their dribbling in open space. You can put anyone against Chiellini and I won't be scared.

Who else can you say that about? I don't like how pundits and the general football fanbase cannot properly proportion their values of players. Guys who score goals vs. guys who stop goals. What is more rare nowadays? The defender that can match the striker 1 on 1 is extremely rare. Chiellini is worth 60M FFS.

He just gets our hopes up by talking of good players and bidding for them and being rejected but 40 million is 40 million and if u go to a club and offer serious cash upfront they will accept. If we had that cash and just went to Arsenal and offered the 25 million they wanted for RVP or we went to Dortmund and did the same with Lewandowski they would be thrilled to sell him to us and avoid selling to Man utd (rvp) or Munich (lew). But if you offer 12 million for RVP you will be laughed at. Its just a case of having the cash and throwing at the player you want

The worth of a player is decided by the selling team and the market. The money we paid for the 29 year old Thuram in lire are equal to 41,3m eur. And afterall, if teams overpaid for some defenders, why shouldn't we over value Chiellini? We don't need to sell and we don't want to sell. Even if his fair price would be between 25-30m eur, he's not for sale so if someone wants him, then the offered price should be much higher than Chiellini's value.

I think he would consider when he figures out he is prob going to not be sold to Munich. Plus RVP was ready to join us but we for whatever reason refused to pay 25 million for him. Which is extremely retarded on our part considering what we paid for Matri, Quag, Asamoah and Isla.. RVP is worth more then Matri Quag and Giovinco combined

He's great. France has some quality young center backs - Zouma, Umtiti, Sakho, Varane. Would gladly take on of them.

I understand what you are saying I just think it is possible to still have a good defence without Chiellini but we cant have an attack to rival top teams without top attacking players or creative players. He is a great player but I think we could find someone to step into the defence and play almost as good .... but we can't find a top attacking player since we lost Zlatan in 2006. To win the CL you need top attacking players and with Bonucci, Barzalo and Ogbonna we would not have the worst defenders in the world either.

If you look at the semi final teams in the CL they all have multiple of the most elite offensive talent. We dont have a single player of the caliber required let alone 3 or 4 of them.

We could get a player like Varane, Ogbonna, Digne, Nastasic, Rakitsky for defence and not suffer in defence but benefit greatly in other areas of the field. Plus its not like we shut down teams like Bayern or Italy shut down Spain with Chiellini alone.

Chiellini is more important to the team and harder to replace for sure, that I agree with. I just think 40 million is a ludicrous fee for a center back no matter who the center back. I love Chiellini... i am just ruthless lol.

But it has become pretty clear we need to sell in order to buy the quality we require. At least we have 5 great Central mids so we would not suffer in that area of the field if we happened to lose one, infact we might be stronger with Pogba as a starter.

I was just thinking about the defensive talent France has at CB .. Koscielny, Varane and Digne .. wow. In a few years Varane and Digne could be the best CB pairing in the world maybe as they are 2 of the best young defenders in the world
