Bit more creative/indvidually able players, we have lots of fine and dynamic work horses, but not too many that does that little extra to unlock oppositions.
Such as?

- - - Updated - - -

imo more attacking minded wing backs like Cuardado for example, who can actually dribble past opponents and shoot from distance.
At the expense of Lichtsteiner??

A proper LWB, and a midfielder in the Pirlo mould. However, a versatile SS like Sanchez/Suarez/Benzema is the priority.
Such as? Would that really change something?

I hate to be that guy, but if we're going to keep on playing a 3-5-2 we need two new wingbacks, one on each side. Lichty is a WC right back, not a winger.

Seriously, apart from the forward line, what would significantly upgrade this team? Concretely and keep it to somewhat realistic targets.

It depends on formation next season IMO.
it's obvious we need at least 1 WC Winger/SS to play with Mirko & LL.(Jojo/Suarez/Alexis).

for 3-5-2:

LWB- Lulic,Adriano,Kolarov,Eliseu from Malaga can be an option maybe.
we need a good upgrade over Peluso/Asa,players who can cross and dribble.
Let Asa play in the middle and be in the mix with MVP & Pogba.
Let Peluso be the LWB/CB sub.

for 4-3-3:

LB-Santon,Ansaldi.
Even if Peluso/Chiello will can do the job imo.

That is all what we need...SS/Winger and LWB/LB imo.
all other positions well covered.

I am hoping we could sell a few players this summer. Let us see how our management handles sales, because while we are not a 'selling club', we definitely don't have the money to compete with the richest around. We must use the market to close that gap - and that imho is the most important thing now.
Imagine we want to have an upgrade over our RWB (just an example) - we can't do it RM/City's way and just splash 20-30m for the desired player... So our options are: a\ we don't get him, b\we are waiting for him to become a free agent and c\we try to get at least half the money needed from our current starter at this position. Since a\ isn't going to help and b\ is like winning the lottery when we are talking about great players in their primes our hopes must include option C\.
So far I've seen Marotta do some good deals regarding new players, but I've never seen him sell one at a good value. In fact his skills in negotiating a sale are non-existent - if we were to look over his work with us so far! The guy was mocked by Amauri, Iaquinta, Martinez, Melo, Giovinco, Tiago... We have always laid the blame over Secco and while I agree he wasn't good enough - we cannot keep pointing to his shadow as an excuse for the 2013/2014 season. It would be more than ridiculous.

Let's say we get 5+m for Padoin, 5+ for De Ceglie, 8+ for Pepe or Giac... and so on. That would change a lot of things imho.

We need Peluso to play CB and Asamoah to take more chances (with backup defensively), then we need Lichsteiner to make us a fortune by joining PSG or RM and then Juve must invest in a new RWB if the 3-5-2 is still the formation to play.

I think it's obvious to anyone (Conte) that the 3-5-2 had a better shot last season then this season, and for next season he and the staff might reconsider the possibility of fielding a stronger attacking team then what the current 3-5-2 holds.
Bayern play with 4 attacking players, Juve with 2 - it's the difference in goals and possession that eliminate us from the CL - not the players head-to-head IMO.

Giovinco, Vucinic, Llorente and a new dribbler like Sanchez would mean a whole world of difference if they were to play together in a Bayern kind of formation.. And Asamoah could be the Marcelo of a LB with Lichsteiner the RB.. This would rock!

That is what I highly doubt. I haven't seen signs from our management that we know how to get the best out of our players. Lichsteiner is a great 10m RB, but if someone is to offer 20 we gotta ship him asap and we must have the scouting system and connections to get a guy that is a step ahead. Worst case scenario we'd end up with similar player and cash.
Zidane was magestic, but Neddy really stepped up and tbh I don't think we would have been the same great team if we kept the frenchman and missed on Neddy. Not to mention the pile of cash we had left over to invest(and we did in other great players)... That's what I loved about our Moggiment!
Let's hope this summer we would see Marotta dominate other managers the same way we've dominated their clubs on the field... ;)

True. But I must underline my point, since people could get a stroke misunderstanding the point. Lichsteiner is a world class RB, he's a mediocre RWB. If a team like PSG were to sign a new RB they'd know Lichsteiner is one of the best around. If they were to offer us ~20m €, I wouldn't think twice. We play Lichsteiner out of position in the 3-5-2 and even though he's the best right now, it's not like he adds a new threat to Juventus afterall. We need someone more direct and technical, a true RWB if we are to keep on playing the 3-5-2. But if we were to change and try out a new formation with a four man backline I say we keep Lichsteiner every way we can. Implying a new tactic with a true RB, we should hold on to Lichsteiner even if PSG table a ~20m € offer! But since changing formation seems very unlikely (at least while we have Pirlo) I dont see no reason why Lichsteiner couldn't be a good piece of business offloading to PSG for a good amount of money. And they are interested, believe me.
