DDR is quality, he can play as a dominating and multi skilled midfielder as well as a steadfast and imposing defender, he's fearless, a great tackler, good and the ball and is also blessed with good vision and passing ability; he's basically the final product if one was to mash a lesser version of Pirlo and Rino together.. He's only underwhelming at Roma because his heart isn't in it any more, for reason's unknown to you and I he's not in a good mindset and seems to be in a situation where-by he cannot perform at his best at Roma. Yet every time he throws on an Azzurri shirt he shows the world that he is one of the best all-round midfielders in the game at present. You can't ignore his Nazionale form at both the Euro's and Confeds, even in the world cup, along with Quag, Pirlo and one or two others, provided one of the few respectable elements of the squad that looks like a collection of cheese eating surrender monkeys... :/
If its stupid to sign DeRossi cos we are stacked in his role, then fair enough. But if it's stupid to sign DeRossi for the player he is, then

I didn't say we should go all out and break the bank, chances are you're right that wages will be high and that he'd be a pricey transfer, but if he's available why shouldn't we consider the possibility? If we are ambitious enough to go for the treble the Padoins and Pelusos of the world simply wont cut the mustard. You make it sound like I'd spend 12m on Martinez!
