Hernanes is $#@!ing awesome, one of my favourite players in Serie A. Great technique, awesome vision, very decent shot on him as well. Even though their styles arent exactly similar, I could see him in a deep lying playmaker role a la Pirlo. Very underrated player IMO.
He's good but i dont think he would fit the deep lying play maker. The reason is he's so good is he plays as an attacking midfielder. He makes his own chances and sets them up also. The only real replacement i could see weould have to be Veratti. Ledesma -plays more like their deep lying playmaker

Alonso can share games with Pirlo given that both arent getting any younger or we can have a more lasting alternative in Verratti or Modric.

Sniejder (with all his movement & passing skills) couldnt cut in central midfield let alone in Pirlo's role. I doubt Hernanes can succeed at it.

Pass. and look for a real Pirlo alternative.

I think he wouldn't fit that well in our team. As a matter of fact Alonso would be a better fit. Xavi prefers fast short passes, while Pirlo is keener to play longer balls.
Not that Xavi isn't amazing, but I fear he would be lost in a team that doesn't have the passing technique of Spain or Barcelona. Not an issue though, Marotta would get Iniesta too... :p
