Looking at what we need to reinforce now and in the future we'll start with the keeper position.

no problem here. If we need a second or 3rd we'll get him cheap or for free while for the future we got Leali. I think he's the real deal.

Center Backs.

Very solid, we got decent backups in Caceres, Marrone(I see him more as a mid) and even Licht could play at RCB(short period) in a 3 man D. Dória for the post Chiello would be a great buy if he pans out. For the post Barza we'll need to check for that next summer or the one after that. Höwedes and Benatia come to mind.

Fullbacks/Wingbacks/Wingers

Licht, Asamoah, Isla, Peluso, DC, Padoin...Pepe, Giaccherini...

Solid but in a perfect world we'd have a real LB/LWB and have Asa play LCM but for now he's ok. We could use better wingers if Conte plans to use them. If not then I guess we're close to ok there. I'd check and see what Yarmolenko and even Walcott want to do.


Central mids.

Top notch with Pirlo, Marchisio, Vidal, Pogba, Marrone, Asamoah(if in that perfect world we get a starting LB/LWB). I also think Chibsah could be a good backup later. We could look for a post Pirlo later but we can mange without one for now. We were interested in Quintero and that guy at PSG.

Forwards/Playmakers

Mirko and Gio would stay for me and the rest can go if have good upgrades available. Matri for Llorente would be a nice start, bring back Immobile/Gabbiadini/Boakye for Bendtner is a no brainer and a SS like Sanchez or playmaker like Isco for Quag would be sweet.


no need to invest that much at mid, look for future starters at D and difference makers in front would be key for me.

I am not so sure about this Quags-Osvaldo swap everyone talks about. I don't see the point to go through all this trouble for a minor upgrade and potentially risking the vibe in the dressing room mid way through a so far successful season.

The Peluso deal is pretty much done and dusted and is good because we are only paying 1m up front so if he doesn't settle in, we are not obliged to make it a permanent transfer even though the total consideration is pretty fair for that player. We probably did lack depth at left wing back and he is versatile and can play in central defense.

As for the forwards situation, my view is pretty straight forward. The only forwards in the market that are not cup-tied, are of high enough quality and can be had for a reasonable transfer fee / wage is Llorente and Drogba. Drogba won't happen though (as you can read between the lines of Marotta etc). That leaves Llorente. If he cannot be bought for less than EU6-7m in January, then my view is, FORGET about getting a big name forward and stick with what we have until the summer.

If Llorente is not going to happen, then we could perhaps think about recalling Gabbiadini or Boakye as Bendtner is likely to be out for most of the remainder of the season. Boakye looks like the more exciting player to bring in right now.

If Juve just added Peluso and Boakye, its not a bad January for us. Sure, we won't have the kind of squad that would win us the champions league, but we wouldn't even if we did bring in Llorente. Its time to tone down expectations, I think Quarters is probably as far as Juve is likely to go in this champions league which is a great achievement after a long absense.

The real shot at the CL should be next year. I would then look at revolutionizing the forwards in the summer. Giovinco and Vucinic are the only forwards I would look to keep. Matri and Quags look more than vulnerable. I would much rather make a BIG BANG and get a truly top class finisher in the summer than p*ssy foot around with small upgrades - you can p*ss away more money in the long run doing that.

But I am happy with the squad because so many of the depth players are versatile and can play in multiple roles - the depth is much stronger than the numbers suggests for that reason.

There is a small chance that he ll extend his contract at Schalke, but I'm pretty sure Höwedes ll join Bayern Munich in summer..IMO Juve have no chance to get him.

The fact that he's some kind of star at Arsenal right now, and that he commands an automatic starting spot almost week in week out, is testament to the massive decline in quality in Arsenal's team. People are always blinded by form, it's one of the funniest things in football. As if we should judge a guy on a handful of games rather than his entire career previously.

That said, I don't think Wenger has used Walcott how Walcott perhaps thought he would be. He seems to see himself as an Henry-style forward, and he did often play that role with Southampton. But really, the sort of intelligence Henry had few English players have had in the last 30 years.
