I think he'd suit us more than Aquilani ever did. Not saying he is a fabulous player, far from it, but for 5M that isnt a bad price TBH.
True, I think he can play instead of any of our three starters when they become unavailable and even compete with them for the starter spot. He's versatible.

5M is a very nice price for him. I just don't wanna see him joining Milan/Inter. It's obvious he'll become important for them, even if not a sure starter.

Nice passing ability and pretty decent technically. I'm yet to witness his true mentally capacity and smartness on the pitch, but bad he's not. Physically much more capable than Aquilani for example, even if that's not a great achievement, but he has some work etic that allow him to play as defensive, central or a little more offensive midfielder. So yes, he's versatible enough for our three midfielder roles.

He used to piss me off because he was altogether too passive in a lot of games.

In the last season or two, though, he has started to impose himself on games much more and can do a pretty decent job of dictating the tempo of a game now.

For 5m or less and sensible wages, he'd be a decent buy.

It's also that he's much less of a pussy than he used to be.

The views that many people have/had on him were reasonable up until about a year or two ago.

Montolivo would be very good for that kind of money. I'd argue it would be enough for our CL campaign next year, no need for more in CM if we get him
