I still believe that sanchez, aguero, etc not coming for around 40 mil was the best thing that happened this mercato. Marotta is doing a good job buidling a base, 1 or 2 signings away from a realistic shot a top 3 finish. Lets finish top three, then splash on a star
I have made a comment against this already

You're assuming that squad is god enough for a top 3 finish. Let's say that Milan and merda are clearly ahead of us, we are competing with Napoli & Roma at least for one spot. Not to mention that there is still Udinese, fiorentina and Lazio that could yet strengthen before the end of August. That being said we will actually need a lot of luck to make 3rd spot.

The problem as I see it is, that squad is built for a top 3 finish, if we have a bad run of injuries, a spell of bad form, run into a highly motivated team then all of a sudden we finish 5th and we fail. If we go out and purchase some real quality (we will have to over pay to get them but so be it!) and build a squad to compete to win Serie A and be run into bad luck we still finish second or third, make the Champions League and with the financial benefits that comes with that we can continue to strengthen with true quality.

I simply fear that if we build a squad with ambitions of top 3 only, we will simply be paving the way for a dynasty of mediocrity
building a squad for top 3 is a recipe for disaster

You make a good point, but adding aguero or sanchez (if you believe they wanted to come, who knows) on top of what we already brought in and may still come (lw and cb) would have been fantastic, but it does not seem like it would of been financially possible. What if instead of vidal, licht, vuc, a possible lw and cb we only brought in two of those and aguero/sanchez. We can debate for hours if the overall quality of the team would have actually improved, couldnt they also have bad injury, terrible run of form, and run into a highly motivated team?

At the beginning of the transfer window I was all for a star signing, nit at the moment I am happy woth the current path

Essentially I agree that if we had only signed a star player and let's say one of Vidal or Licht it wouldn't have been enough either. All i'm saying though, is that at times we aren't ambitious enough and seem to always go with the conservative option rather than take a punt on the star signing. I know that you can only work within the financial restraints at hand but the aim should always be to build a winning squad not a squad that will hopefully finish third.

I'm not completely unhappy with the current mercatto i'm just not fapping all over the place over it. I think Licht has been our best signing so far, if we had of decided to keep Melo then i'd have been a lot happier with Vidal but as i see it, Vidal might be marginally better than Melo but in terms of the squad have we improved by a drastic measure by getting rid of Melo for Vidal?

All I want is Giovinco back.

You all wanted Aguero and Rossi :disagree:

Gio would have helped a lot now.

Anyways, I'd take vucinic and then wait till winter to talk to lille :klin:

I don't think it was a huge improvement, but still an improvement. Melo had to be sold after the comments he made this summer. I am a melo fan, but felt he wa mis used, and feel we may also not use vidal in way which allows hom to shine. That being said, I would of been happy had we kept melo as I thought that was not an area where we needed improvement anyway.

The biggest issues form tlast year were the defence and reliance on the counter attack. We performed well against the top temas because we let them takle the game to us a hit them on the counter. However, we were absolutely shit against everyone else, where we were expected to take the game and initiative. I belive the biggest issue was the in ability ti breakdown the opponets through possesion and creative play. Aquilani was expected to provide the decisiver through balls, and that simply did not happen, but I believe pirlo will be able to deliver. Vucinic will bring theat bit of creativity needed to break down teams playing 11 behind the ball.

As for the defence, I beilieve licht, ziegler, and possibly lugano will be adequate. I, like you, also feel that licht was our best signing, and will prove to be our signing of the summer and a steal. I also see lugano as the perfect partner for chiellini. As long as ziegler kieeps it simple, or de ceglie steps up, I think we'll be fine

If we got Nani. I'd say we have equal best squad for serie a. Maybe a holding mid short (Gago/Diarra).
Milan's midfield is no creativity, 35 yo's, carried by Ibra and Silva, and are also deluding themselves that CL is their focus this year. Good for us.
Inter's team is also old, slow and their coach is bringing in a system more strange then what Benitez did.

With our average age... we can bring an EPL mentality and with no Europe... it's all playing into our hands for the Star.
