It makes far more sense to have strong depth at fullback so you don't have to use your best CB there.

unless it is someone like masiello, then there is little point wasting money on a squad/backup player who is probably not even good enough to start when called upon. Good luck finding a player like that, because it is most likely going to have to be someone unproven and may not necessarily be better than our current backup - motta, hence why the Ansaldi options kills 2 birds with 1 stone.

Erm, the whole point of purchasing a backup is that he's good enough to be decent enough while the starting player is out. They're not going to go out and get someone shit ffs.
