It's unfair in hindsight but we sold our most promising CB, sold De Winter, terminated the contract for one CB, and sent Gonzalez, Djalo, Rugani, and Muharemovic on loans. Now we're paying a lot of money to stay floating for the remainder of the season. Most of the players we shipped out is understandable but Huijisen really itches my nose. I would have kept Rugani as an insurance since he accepts the bench.
At the same time, none of them might have done well in a high backline. Djalo was really poor during pre-season, Gonzalez is really raw, same with Tarik. Danilo had one really good game as LB but was a disaster every other time. I've barely seen De Winter and I don't know how well Huijisen would have done. Rugani could have rested a starter against relegation battlers but I don't think he would have done well when we press high. Maybe we would have ended up in the same situation again.
What stings then is that we seemingly have the planning as
@GrandeGigi writes. I concur, I'd rather see us get our long-term target (or keep Huijisen he was it) than empty our pockets on dry loans that we will never see again. We are doing their clubs (especially Chelski) a service by giving their leftovers playing time.
