Because he has shown no willingness to defend for about 3 seasons.
Because it's a very limiting and defensive role for Pogba. It's not a box-to-box role at all. And that's where he thrives the most. Paying a huge salary for a square peg in a round hole, is dumb. Even if his name is Pogba. If Pirlo adapts, fine but else it's just more proof we never learn and keep buying 'market opportunities' instead of buying what we actually need.
We can play Pogba how we play McKennie (though obviously they have different functions), except Pogba on the left side instead of the right, and 2 other CMs next to him.

And i think it's an exaggeration to say he doesn't do any defensive work though his workrate and effort have been lacking at MU

If his profile is not what we need I don't know what is

Agresti started suggesting him after what Raiola said in TS. Agresti usually doesn’t do such videos, nor is he confirming that the are negotiations going on. But he believes that the board will try if even off the odds are small.

So who knows.. it’s seems quite likely that Khedira and Bernardeschi will leave, besides that hopefully Pogba is willing to accept lower wages as Morata did. With the new tax rules and a creative loan-obligation deal this transfer could become reality.

I’d be very happy with Aouar or Locatelli, but thinks that Pogba (if he somewhere reaches his old level), would be someone who we need more instead of the other 2. Aouar also very interesting but I want to see Kulu for some games in that position.
That's just fan talk, zero facts. Just because he wants, it doesn't mean it will happen.

If Pogba - Pirlo - Vidal worked I don’t see why Pogba - Arthur - McKennie wouldn’t work, and keep in mind that we still have Rabiot and Bentancur.
I think the difference is that Pirlo and Vidal were world class. Vidal with us was like 2 players on his own, he could do it all. Pirlo was one of the best players in his generation, he could pick passes nobody could and score goals.

I see what you are saying that Arthur could be the regista and McKennie the energy but they are both significant downgrades on Pirlo and Vidal and not as rounded.

The other midfielders next to Pogba (Marchisio and Vidal) could do multiple roles. Unfortunately all of our midfielders are less rounded and seem to specialise in 1 or 2 areas but weak in others (Arthur = good ball retention but can't create, defend or score goals, McKennie = good movement and energy but bad passing/positioning, Rabiot = Good carrying but can't create or score, Bentancur = probably the most rounded but needs to add more in an attacking sense).

I'm not against Pogba at the right price but he is far riskier than a lot seem to think and would take some reorganising to fit him in. At the moment you'd need to play him where McKennie is but then we lose his press. You could move McKennie to one of the pivots but pressing like he does from there is crazy (eg Roma game) and I'm not sure he has the positional sense to play there.

Like you say a midfield 3 suits him best but you'd need to find balance somewhere to protect the defence.

Right now, I think he would go into Ramsey's position in the Barca game. Which is not ideal, but I think that's where Pirlo would put him.

So he defends LM in a 4-4-2, and Arthur-McKennie defend the middle. Cuadrado the right.

In attack, he comes in behind Ronaldo.

Maybe, just maybe someone who can actually help us control games.

He could do the McKennie role, I've said it before but it's not exacty suited for him; McKennie does a shitload of defensive work and puts pressure all the time.

It all depends on formation and tactics.
I personally think Pogba would be perfect with McKennie and Arthur alongside him but with other tactics I guess your idea could be better.
I still think my idea is the better one but its not as we are a forum full of Marcello Lippi...

I fully agree, pal. But that requires Pirlo to switch it up. And I don't think he wants to. We'll see. I'm all for Pogba btw if the price is right.

My prediction for winter mercato. I dont like it but i see it happening
Dybala to United
Pogba to Juve
Milik to Juve.
Khedira will leave.
You're very optimistic I'd say. I'd open a champagne as long as we get rid of Khedira and save up some wages on him. The rest I consider highly unrealistic.
