We're not biased because he's young; we're biased because the alternatives are either shit, unreliable, or old. However, some stubborn oafs fail to understand that.
See again, what has being old got to do with that ? You're clearly biased over old players. As sad a situation it is , I would still rely on our 'old' defenders than the Ranocchia incarnate that is Rugani. We should seriously consider selling him and investing it on a defender like Giminez.

I read that also the other day but I wouldn't do it. Don't know how true it is.

My CB for next year would be:

Chiellini, Caldara, Rugani, Gimenez or de Vrij and Höwedes if he stays healthy and does well.
Chiellini, Caldara, Giminez , De Vrij/Höwedes, Barzagli (5th CB option)

Sell Rugani and Benatia

What makes Caldara a guarantee? He's also young and untested; pretty similar situation to Rugani before he joined us.

De Vrij and Gimenez will set us back 60-70 million, and leave us with no money to upgrade the RB position and our midfield (which both need strengthening/reinforcements).

That would even bring some money, cause your names have all expiring contracts, except cash for player and agent raise up in these cases.

But I'd go for one of de Vrij or Gimenez and keep Rugani, unless he won't make the breaktrough this season. Now he has the chance to prove, if he won't, sell.

Caldara is 24 and a much accomplished defender than Rugani. He's clearly among the best CB's in the league now. While Rugani has spent the last 3 years hanging out with Rubinho and the likes in the reserves. No comparison at all.

If De Vrij comes , it'll most likely be on a free(I think).

Rugani was also lighting up the league as Caldara is now.

It depends on the coach when he gets here. Max has said a million times Rugani can’t be thrown in. I can think of at least 3 times I the last 2 years he has said it. The same agonizing wait is also going to happen to Caldara. Max has to realize ASAP that the old guard isn’t guarding anymore and know when to move beyond that.

Oh, and keepin barzagli another year is a horrible idea. The guy is regressing incredibly quickly.

Barzagli finished who's benching the fuck out of Lolgani and lolroccan
Coach isn’t always right. He needs to realize the “old guard” days are over. Barzagli is in a slow and steady decline at the moment

Rugani was lighting up shit. Impressing as a young prospect for a relegation threatened team(Rugani) and impressing as a solid consistent defender for a team that finished 4th last season and impressing in EL now , a guy who forms the spine of their defense makes a sea of difference. Caldara can immediately be thrown into the first eleven. In terms of maturity and quality, he's comfortably ahead of Rugani right now. I don't find the the comparison of Rugani's Empoli days to what Caldara is achieving with Atalanta valid at all.

Rugani was showing massive composure in a side that struggled to stay up but he also earned his way to one of the biggest clubs in the world when he was only 20-21 years old while Caldara is still at a mid table team. Both will be great CBs but you have to admit Rugani made a name for himself a lot sooner than Caldara has.

To me there's no doubt Caldara is better.

Rugani is too timid and needs to bulk the fuck up. But the talent is there.
The talent and intelligence is there.

Rugani has already played a bunch this season and soon will be an automatic starter. By January I imagine that Rugani-Chiellini will be our sure first choice pairing.

Caldara is a lot more bold, which is good because Rugani isn't. They will complement each other well.

Also, both De Vrij and Gimenez are expected to renew according the media. De Vrij with a release clause to allow him to leave and get Lazio some money. Gimenez will probably sign and get a LOT more expensive.

It doesn't change the fact that between him and Caldara , the latter is certainly more ahead in his growth curve. A lot of players who've showed promise at an early age have gone on to have stagnant careers so it really doesn't matter if Rugani impressed at a much earlier age than Caldara. All the experience training with the best defenders at one of the biggest clubs and Rugani still looks nervous and timid. I'm completely with Allegri on this one.

Look, I don’t disagree at all that Caldara is going to be amazing. The guy will be a monster.

But I still think Rugani is going to be great too once Max starts showing more faith in him. Rugani will earn his place I’m sure of it. We will have a rock sold core of Italian CBs.

One player I would like to sign that may be possible (or rather, not impossible) is Hysaj. His father who is also his agent pretty much said he will be open to anything in June.

Maybe he can force ADL's hand and come here, probably extra expensive because its Napoli but he would be a very reliable RB for years.

I won't be surprised to see Hysaj at a top club next season (Juve, Madrid, Barca, Bayern, etc.)

It's not mutually exclusive you know? Barzagli can be finished, looked out of it past games, and still be the case that bumbling Benatia and rookie Rugani aren't good enough.

But between barzagli benatia and Rugani Rugani has to start either he belongs to this level or you might as well sell him if you don't consider him good enough he had enough season on the bench
