And you have? Pot kettle black.

- - - Updated - - -

The guy is gonna be 30 soon, doesn't get called up for Brazil anymore, and his team aren't exactly setting the Bundesliga on fire. Who else is interested in him? Nobody! Oh wait, Inter! We should let them have him, and focus our attention on younger and better players.

Juventus once signed in January a 30 year old player from Wolfsburg who no one wanted, not even Inter, for 300k. When that was happening, something tells me you were saying EXACTLY the same thing you are doing in the above.

And I say this as someone who doesnt care for Luiz Gustavo, even if he is a competent DM.

All I'm saying is dont speak in absolute terms, like someone cant be very good after certain point or surpass ones expectations of them.

Edit: It wasnt even hard to find a post of what you said about the last 30 year old player we signed from Wolfsburg...

What? Excuse Me? What planet have you been living on for the past 5 years? Barzagli is pure and utter garbage. At best, A Chievo type player.

more than you did, most likely :baus:

The guy is gonna be 30 soon,
and still hasnt retired. damn

doesn't get called up for Brazil anymore,
AS must suck then :baus:

neither does Allan btw, and him and Gustavo must be so much worse than Paulinho, Lucas Lima, Giuliano or Renato Augusto. seriously, being called up or not for Brazil means shit these days

and his team aren't exactly setting the Bundesliga on fire.
if only he could provide some playmaking and goalscoring in addition to his defense. maybe his suck ass team would score more than 15 goals in 16 games :baus:

should i remind you of all the players no one wanted but Beppe signed? no? okay

Barzagli was absolute shit for them, and I wasn't the only one who thought that deal made no sense at the time. Many others were skeptical, but he has proven to be an indispensable member of our back line. As for Gustavo, he is average. Competent doesn't quite cut it if we want to make an impact in Europe. There are many better options on the market.

I'd love to get someone like Delle Alli (who I believe has the potential to be more effective and efficient, not necessarily better, than Pogba).

All valid points, but Gustavo is a limited average footballer, nothing more. Should we be going for someone like him? Fuck no, not even in January. He'd be a quantity, not a quality signing. Can he make a difference for us in Europe? I highly doubt it. Let's go for some quality instead.

i believe Allegris tactical brilliance and our need of such a player, as well as the great players that will suround him here, will make Gustavo look much better than he does at VW (where he doesent look that bad really). due to Marchisios tactical flexibility, we can rotate the 2 at DM as well as play both at the same time. we could also see a 442 more often with these 2 as holding mids. also, i checked his defensive and passing numbers past 5 years in VW and Bayern, he always ups them for ther CL matches

+ if we can get 50% of this Real destroyer out of him:

hed be an useful addition for this team definitely

I say we stop with the panic buys and go for a complete midfield overhaul in the summer.

If we're going to buy someone now then it should be Gagliardini who can also help us in the future. Gustavo will turn 30 in July, he would be nothing more than an expensive patch.
I agree. The mids we have now is good enough for this season. There are no mids out there who would improve us so we should stop save the money for summer, and stop buying mediocre stop gap solutions.

This summer we should be aiming for WC players, or players who has the potential to be one. Gustavo is neither and we should keep as far away from players like him as possible.

We have enough average players around their thirtees, who add very little, and who we cant even get rid of.

Barzagli is the reason not to criticize our low-profile, low-risk high potential reward winter-transfers. It's the failed summers and the obvious 10mil+ failures that piss me off

I thought that last summer and the year before but we end up selling one of our best players and are left with another gap to fill. If want to make a serious run at Cl this season we need a quality MF signing now. Some of our best players are getting older we havent got forever to wait for the CL we should of made a massive push for it this season but we never signed the right players and now again we talk about waiting till next season?

The problem is that Rincon and Gustavo are not players, who are going to give us that extra push towards a run for the CHL. If it was possible to get such a player in january, then I would be all for it, but buying another 30 year old, give him a three/ four year contract and relativ high wages, to slightly improve our bench options are a bad idea. I would much rather save the money for summer.
I am not against a stop gap solution if it happened to be someone like Masherano, who could do the trick for us for a year or two, but for god sack stop buying this squadplayers who are never going to be good enough to be starters here, we have enough of them, especially in midfield.
