They actually scout players properly unlike us who just go for market opportunity after market opportunity.

That's how we threw away a completely dominant position in Serie A, by signing market opportunities and old players running out their contracts over talented young players.

We also had talented young players like Romero and Kulusevski.

I'm so happy that we have Kostic and Bonucci instead of those guys in 2022. We are so much better off.

I called it back in 2018 and was mocked on here. We completely bottled our dominant position in Serie A because we prefer signing rejects from other big clubs (on run down contracts) instead of properly scouting players ourselves.

Barcelona signed Pedri from Las Palmas for 5 million Euros. He's now one of the best midfielders in the world. The last time we made a signing that intelligent was Pogba in 2012.

good point. it's funny how many players brought in to be starters here were rejects at their club

bonucci 2018 reject at ac milan
danilo 2019 reject at man city
rabiot 2019 reject at psg
arthur 2020 reject at barca
pogba 2022 reject at man u
parades 2022 reject at psg

no wonder club is failing.

Actually it was Pogba who wanted out of Man Utd rather than the other way. The rest is true.
P.S IIRC Davids wasnt really a huge success at Milan either..

you are using an ancedotal evidence. the club for 4 seasons now has signed rejects of other clubs on highwages. this is a worrying trend because it's not a one off thing.

This team has far too many deep holes, we need a lot. From the current bunch

GK
RB Bremer CB LB
Locatelli Paredes Pogba
Chiesa Vlahovic LW
Fill this out with quality players, and then compare to 2017. Thats 5 signings and we are still so far behind its embarassing. Then the bench

Perin
RB Danilo CB LB
Miretti Rovella* Fagioli
RW Milik LW
Maybe you can keep Kostic from the rest, Rabiot as depth on a low cost deal (but no thanks), and Di Maria on another 1 year deal. Young guys like Kaiole, Ake, Soule are to be seen what they are, but the rest should play for Lecce or retire in MLS

I said it towards the end of the summer, but it's mindblowing how inept management's planning was. We went all-in on a 433 without getting proper wingers. The only winger we got is Di Maria on a 1-year deal who needs to be replaced next summer. So we need to get 2 wingers (at least), 2 full-backs, another CB, and another CM preferably.

Nothing changed for us. We still need to address half the team.

McKennie as RW is like a new signing though

Don't expect anything when we go out of the group stage of the champions League.

Pirlo was reject in milan and he turned out to be the one of the best buys in this era. So a reject dont mean anything. A proper coach can make miracles with rejects... I wont forget whem nhl team las vegas took all the rejects and make it to the finals of NHL.

Factor in as well that we had a winger (kukusevski) who we let go 12 months ago because we weren't planning on playing with wingers.

And now Soulé is getting minutes

You need a manager with a system to recruit the proper players. We simply changed managers and playing style too many times. Our current manager doesn't even have a favorite system. He just plays 4-3-whatever and gives as much freedom to the offensive players.

Neh, ever since the "We'll build the team around Vlahovic" comments from Arrivabene, it was pretty clear the plan was to go with a 433.

Well, then they should have bought more fucking wingers or at least someone flexible like Depay.
I do wonder if splashing the extra cash for Depay would have made the difference and allowed us to play better football this year, or if we would have crashed anyway and we'd have had an obnoxious Depay at the club making things worse
