Just a random question..

I can understand schools/College and similar having the vacation in the summer.

But why football had to play in the winter time?
Why season does not start and end in same calendar year?

probably to make room for the big international events like world cup, olympics or euros.

there are some leagues with a "one calendar year, one league season" schedule though. see russia

Here in Finland as well. Grass pitches unplayable once the snow and cold comes. That's why there are many artificial grass pitches here but it's not the same as playing on real grass.

Fairly sure this is to avoid health concerns with players playing in the hot European summer months in 35 degree plus heat. The Southern Hemisphere seasons run during the late summer - spring for the same reason I believe

You could say the same about the statement that "McKennie was bought because of the US market"
No I cant..
Mck was bought for 2 reasons - We thought he was talented and the nationality thing for marketing purposes.
Locatelli was brought because he was one of the best performers in the league.
Did nationality play a part? Its good to bring Italians for the club identity but its not the prime target.
The US can represent some serious marketing opportunity even if European football isnt their no`1 sport

Locatelli played in a middle table team and we overpaid completely. We had already two midfielders with the same characteristics in Rabiot and Bentancur.
The biggest factor buying him was that he is italian and was part of the team that won the Euros. There was no need buying him, should have gone for Savic instead in my opinion or at least get rid of Rabiot or Benta before buying him.

My point with McKennie was that Paratici has a good eye for finding this kind of talents, other clubs want also the marketing oppurtunity in the US but were not aware that McKennie is a good player.
