Morty was fine with the loan move, as it seems we couldn’t afford a proper big money striker with Ronaldo on the books. 20 goals-12 assists last year was a very good return for a 10 mil loan and 5 mil net wages. If we kept Ronaldo it would be fine having him again as rotation piece on reasonable wages again this year before shipping him off.

However, it’s ridiculous we allowed the Ronaldo situation develop to the point he didn’t leave until season was started and mercato was basically over. If we knew Ronaldo was leaving in June, we could have shipped him off, not renewed Morty loan and brought in a top young striker like Vlahovic. Terrible planning all around really.
I agree. But I didn't mind the loan, he did deserve it. But somebody said we'll keep him and triggering the clause to buy him is waaaay to expensive for his abilities, that part I reffered to as overpaying. It's just crazy

Agree 100%. He’s 29. There’s no way we should be buying him at the end of the season. Even if Atletico reduced the price by half, Morty is a rotation piece and his non-reduced salary is too high for that. We need to focus on a striker that will lead the attack for the next half-dozen years.

Who would you chase if we can't get Vlahovic?

I don’t follow enough young strikers to really know. I’d kind of like us to go after that River Plate kid, Julian Alvarez. He’s more of a Dybala replacement, but could also play opposite Chiesa in a 4-3-3 ( @MikeM @DAiDEViL ) , and then go after someone to replace Morty. Other than Haaland and Vlahovic, I just don’t know who are the young promising strikers right now? You know of any?

Imo Haaland is way out of our reach. His wages will be what we paid to Ronaldo so his destination is EPL I think. Dunno why but I think we have high chance to land Vlahovic. But if it's not him... I have hard time guessing. I still think Abraham would have been perfect for us, literally perfect. High fee, low wages and crazy talent with instant imapct.

Pogba is more unrealistic than Vlahovic because with Vlahovic it’s strictly a question of whether we can afford his transfer fee. With Pogba his age doesn’t fit the clubs timeline. His wages are wild too.
My bet is that both are realistic if we reach the CL next season. I thought that Pogba is on 7 or 8m net, which is a lot but surely we’ll make some room without some big earners. I’d love to add him into a midfield consisting of McKennie, Rovella, Locatelli, Fagioli and Bentancur.

Vlahovic doesn’t seem unrealistic if we only have to pay some signing fee to Pogba and if Vlahovic only wants us, Fiorentina would be with their hands tied.

Juventus have made an offer to Inter for Matias Vecino. However, Inter have refused the offer, although they consider the player for sale. (Repubblica)

Looking at it calmly, we should try that Martial on loan with option. From this guy perspective it's his last chance to revive his career, can see some potential to be a good signing for us.

Juventus had proposed to PSG an loan exchange with Arthur for Icardi. Leonardo reply was - “if you want the player, obligation to buy must be included in the deal.” This reply from Leonardo does not please the Juventus management, the interest in the player is now cooling.(Gazzetta)

La liga dont allow them to register players unless they sell.

They couldn't re sign messi, or register new signings until Griezmann was sold (one of them was Aguero, who played 2 games then retired). And they have to sell handful of big contract squad players to be able to register Ferran Torres.

But yeah even if la liga puts some limit to the insanity, fact of matter is state banks write off or prolong their debt/loans to infinite years to help out both Barca and Real Madrid. They like wall street mega entities. Too big to fail so state bails them out.
It’s a disgrace, I just can’t see how a club is able to spent like this in their situation. Sure, not having Messi should make a big difference but the debts, the problems with resolving Koeman’s contract, not able to register without selling etc. It’s absolutely unbelievable.

If a few of their players didn’t accept a pay cut they wouldn’t be able to register Depay and Aguero, I mean wtf. It sounds like they’re at the brink of bankruptcy, yet they buy players like nothing is going on.

Really hope they miss out on CL.
