I don't want him. I wouldn't be opposed as a depth loan though. I wouldn't have him in our 11 as starter, but in the case of injury, for a UCL campaign I wouldn't be opposed to having 2-3 veterans on the bench who can step in if there is injury. Van Der Vaart same thing: Low risk. Would he be my first choice? No. Would I be upset if it was a short term loan? Nope.
As for Sneijder, if he wasn't cup-tied, I'd drive him to Turin personally. He is still a world class player. Complaining about him is like complaining about the Tevez signing. He literally would be the perfect player for the 4-3-1-2.
To sum up:
Van Der Vaart/Vidic: As a 3 month loan, there is literally no downside. Is it my first choice? nope. But I see it as potentially additive, especially if there are injuries. If you had a potential choice of Bonucci-Ogbonna or Bonucci-Vidic is a champions league final, wouldn't you be inclined to go for experience. Worst case scenario: You have an extra body in the reserves for the three months. That being said I would prefer Vidic to Van Der Vaart, just based off what some of the Bundlesliga fans said. Vidic I believe can still be serviceable. With Van Der Vaart, I don't watch the Bundesliga enough to say that with the same conviction.
Sneijder: If he wasn't cup tied and we signed him, I'd be ecstatic. A Sneijder signing is a Pirlo/Tevez type signing. These players are on the backend of their primes and as still good for 2-3 years.
On a side-note, I know how people love to start the kids, but young players make a lot of errors - errors that we won't notice, but Allegri would. Pogba I'm sure made a ton of errors last year and I recall Conte calling him out on it. Fortunately, his talent balanced it out. Having 1-2 loan bench players for a Champions League campaign isn't a bad thing.
That being said, I'd like to see some permanent moves in the summer. In the winter window though, patch-up loans I feel are ok.

i don´t get this "we definately need another defender" at all tbh.CB: Barzagli, Chiellini, Bonucci, Ogbonna, Caceres
RB: Lichtsteiner, Caceres, Romulo, Padoin
LB: Evra, Asamoah, Ogbonna, Caceres, Padoin
of course you can argue that some of these players don´t have the quality to play in the CL knock outs but which player (we can realisticly get) does?
- a very inexperienced rugani who would definately gain more from playing another half season for empoli? not to mention that we would have to pay like twice the amount we can get him for in the summer.
- a nastasic who was somewhat highly rated before he got completely wrecked by injuries und could well need half a year to get anywhere near his old self again?

as long as we don´t expect barzagli and caceres to take ages to gain form or a huge opportunity presents itself, i think we shouldn´t buy another defender.

And you also need to take into consideration injuries. Barzagli could get reinjured. He is older and injuries are often re-aggregated. Also, Chiellini has a tendency to get suspended. So if god-forbid this happened for a key knockout battle, having a player who has played in countless important UCL matches like Vidic for 3 months, isn't a bad thing. I would feel less comfortable with a Bonucci/Ogbonna pairing against Bayern than one with Vidic. At least Vidic' experience takes care of some of it. And frankly, he wasn't even bad last year with United. I'm sure on the right team, he could be very useful in case of injury. Would I sign him past the summer? No - well, unless he looked like the second coming of Cannavaro in his brief stint with us.
For the rest of the year - so more like 4-5 months. My point was that if he wasn't cup-tied (which he is), a veteran like Vidic playing in European competition (which I might add have been his strongest games this year) isn't a bad thing if it is on a temporary loan deal for the rest of the year. My whole premise on any of these stop-gap solutions is that you do those sort of deals during the January window and wait for the summer window for permanent fixes. Sellers have all the leverage in the January window so unless you want to pay EUR 30MM for a players like Leandro Castan, it's best to wait until the Summer. That means the only deals that are really feasible are loans.
22 games played so far in serie A and CL. 11 goals conceded, ratio of 0,5 goal per game. Im more then happy with the defence. IF we difent have à good depth already all our injuries would be a massive problem, but it hasent been. Bonucci has been great this season, caceres when he was fit was also great. In the last matches Ogbonna looked solid. I mean name a team that has better depth then us? Barzagli, caceres, chiellini, bonucci, ogbonna. Real have pepe, Ramos, varane, and that kid nacho or something.

Lets be fucking serious here. Serie a attackers are mostly mediocre, our midfield shuts down most of what is going to come to them.
We need to replace chiellini and barzagli in the near and very near future, and we got no one. Ogbonna looks decent but against a serious opponent his incredibly low intelligence is showing each time.
We need a younger CB. With talent. And its priority n1.

And we have Rugani for the future. Let put some trust in out players, im sure Bonucci van become even better, look at Barzaglis improvments. Rugani in the summer and we are set. Im sure Ogbonna, Caceres, Bonucci,Rugani and Chiellini Would be a good CB setup if Barzagli wont come back in à good form, but im confident he Will.

Rugani in the summer, problem solved. No player is 100 succés. I mena look at many top teams i europe struggling to find good CBs. Rugani has proved he deserves a chance. Is he a new Cannavaro or a Legro, time Will tell
