I remmember the protests in london , millions of people were in the streets to protest against participating in iraq war and asking for troops to go home , and saying that blair did not tell them the truth about it .

then after that he was elected again with no trouble at all.

how that happened ? cause this is the cause of what happend in london 3 weeks ago ?

    But in england there is democracy - as we are being told - which is never found in any other country - you cant compare it with syria , egypt or lybia where dectators rules .

    Anywho - the main problem in the UK and the USA (as opposed to many Western European countries like Holland and Italy) is that there really are only two parties with realistic chances of winning elections. If you only have two choices; chances are you'll quickly decide to just vote for the lesser of two evils and that's presumably what happened in Britain.

    In Holland and Italy, there are at least 5 parties with realistic chances of winning every election and another 5 worth voting for because they have good chances of taking part in the coalition. That's 10 choices right there. All solid ones.

    Blair was re-elected really for 2 main reason and neither have anything to do with Labour

    1. No-one has forgotten what Britain was like under the Tories, it'll take more then a War in Iraq for that to change, also not many people liked Michael Howard.

    2. Liberal Democrats, firstly they only ever seem to have one argument, during the elections they kept going back to Iraq all the time, also not many people are really convince they could run the country.

    The reason why Blair and Bush were elected was because the people voting for the candidates care more about issues affecting them rather than anything else going on in the world. That is highly understandable, and no matter what country you go to you'll find the same "me first" mentallity. That said, a lot of people don't always know what they're actually voting for.

    I think Blair is a very good man personally. I'd take him any day over my President.

    Not every child of the 1960s was at Woodstock (though they all claim to be :rolleyes: ), smoked pot, and lived out of a VW minivan for several years. Similarly, millions can make vocal statements about this and that, but no one ever shows the many more millions who might instead sit home on their arses, watching the protests on the TV news, and merely say, "Change the bloody channel. What is this shite? And pass me a Newkie Brown, eh?"

    Blair was re-elected by the lower working classes, and those scrounging on the benefit system.

    In fact I'm not even sure they got as many votes as the tories overall in england, but our electoral system is severely flawed and they ended up with a substantial, though reduced majority.

    They've got to go by 2009 surely.. :(

    Yesterday I read somewhere that some 17,000 pounds (or 170,000 pounds) has been spent over the past couple of years for maintaining Blair's image (haircuts, make-up, etc).

    ... from the taxpayers' pockets of course.

    Hmmm... I would say: What are the chances of a local barber shop walking into Blair's residence? :D

    The most ridiculous story though belongs to the wife of Vagit Alekperov, the head of a top 2 Russian oil company.

    She gets on a private jet, flies to Paris, gets her hair done, gets back on the plane to fly back to Moscow.
