we all know whar will happen, we will court some of the more illustrious names on the list of available left back

then sign Mexes or Burdisso and push Chiellini out to LB

Marotta said no Samp players, like 3 or 4 times already.

Yes, I know.

Marotta said it's not economical to buy Samp players because they're likely to be overpriced.

First of all, he don't need to stick with what he said, he can change his mind and I think given the limited choice of decent LB in the market Ziegler is worth considering... Del Neri knows him well, he is still young (23/24) but quite experienced. did well in the World Cup and last season in Serie A as well.

And most importantly, he should be cheaper (8-10m I guess?) than for example Cissokho, Clichy or Contreao...

Samp is offering a contract renewal to Ziegler, but there's chance that he rejects the renewal and Samp might be willing to sell him to get some cash before his contract runs out.

Anyway, it's just blah blah talking and nothing concrete as all the other LB targets.

I hope you are wrong, Mr G...though if your horrifying prediction is proven correct, my only hope will be that we lose Grosso, and bring in another left back who can at least challenge De Ceglie for the position.

De Ceglie has shown promise, but he has never appeared to me, to have natural defensive talent. Full of running, eagerness with sterdy determination, but lacking both positional awareness and timing in the tackle. No need to say more, other than...at least he is young enough and hard working enough to be potentially improved by decent coaching.
