I think balance is the best thing. I've watched games whom people claim was 'entertaining' where there were a lot of goals and space, but sometimes I just dont fancy that as it seems too easy - I also like moments where great defence is shown and defenders do a great job in tackling and closing down on their opponent. I guess I'd like a 50-50 match of attack and defense.
Exactly Sally, that's exactly the reason why the EPL is overrated and to me not that entertaining at all.

Tension, exactly John. If you care about the result it will be an exciting match no matter what sort of football is being played, most of the time at least.
Not always, many people here clearly admit that the 2003 Euro Cup Final was boring as hell, despite the fact taht many are Juve fans and wanted to win, of course it is important that it is worth something but not always, it all depends on what you like, if you like defending (god knows how you can live with yourself!!) then you probably like a 1-0 win for your team, but personally mine would be...:

1. History is the most important, I care more about Roma vs Lazio anything else when it comes to Roma, I'd rather beat Lazio then beat Juve...

2. Style, attacking football, I perfer to see 2 teams trying to win a game, not one team trying to get a point whilst the other tries to win...the end-to-end stuff normally only in the EPL...

3. Tension, like people have said, you have to care about who plays but not always, I remember watching Lecce vs Lazio, and whilst to a degree I did want a team to lose and one to win, it was still exciting even if the result wasnt all that important...

4. Personality, Arsenal vs Man Utd games are great for mainly one thing, Wenger and Sir Alex hate each other, they are completely polar-oposities in terms of personality...

5. Bad blood, as much as me and many people will say you dont like violence, fact is if 2 teams are going 100% of to win the game, knowing that the game could explode in a second (Man Utd vs Liverpool, Roma vs Lazio, Barca vs Real etc etc etc), it makes it exciting as well...
