I got a phone call today regarding a job opening. First call after probably 6-8 months.

I didn't get many details but I heard I'd be working in shifts where I'd work from 14:00 - 22:00 in majority of the cases, while sometimes, sometimes I'd work overnight.

So seriously, when I add commute & stuff that's like 13:00 - 23:00 not be able to do anything. So I have a free morning when I'd sleep. What's the point of life then :boh: WTF

That's basically an 8 hour work day. Shitty hours, I agree, but not abnormal.

Sounds like the regular 8 working hours. Just means you'd miss CL matches :D

I work 13.00-22 and 12.30-21.00 some times. Prefer working day hours (which is most of my hours), but its doable. Ask yourself, what do you wanna get job for? Resource gathering, get going if so.

Yeah I record when it clashes or slow hours just hop on over to the bar next to work and watch while getting paid lol.

CL games normally start right before work ends for me so if it's a big game I'd just leave early, otherwise I'd quietly stream the beginning of the game and then run home to catch the rest. Hate watching games delayed. Would only do so for a massive game that I can't find a way to watch.

Its all about making self imposed silenzio stampa/media blackout when you want to watch delayed games. I do that ONLY for Juve games I cant watch live (cant be bothered for any other games), and its pretty much just like watching live if you make sure you ignore texts/social media lol.

Yup, but wouldn;t do that for a regular league match or anything. Nowadays if I have to miss one of those, it's no big deal :D

Nah even if its vs Novara in last game of the season, make time to see (tho I understand with your time zone its bigger sacrifice to watch em), my interest and viewing habits in other footie games drastically diminished by huge margin last 2 years, but I litterally cannot miss a Juve game. Only ones I missed in 3-4 seasons are coppa game or two when there werent stream and I was on vacation.

Not just the time zone, it's weekend matches too. It used to be that I couldn't miss even a preseason friendly. But these days we're just winning so effortlessly, and not much competition in the league, and we love to conserve energy, there's not much to miss at times.

I'd definitely have problems with those hours if it were for a permanent job. You can basically say goodbye to your social life during the week - doesn't mean that I wouldn't take the offer depending on other circumstances, but those are some shitty hours imo

It is an 8 hour shift. I have no problem with that.

But it seems morning shifts disappeared here. I can't do shit in the morning. When I worked in sales it was horrible but at least I was home at 16:00 with the job done and I had an entire evening to do whatever I please.

How do you manage it Osman? I used to work that shift but like every other or every third week, but not always. Do you find it horrible too or am I nuts? You have weekends free?

Osman is a black man in Sweden. He has a job, but he doesn't have to work. He doesn't even have to come in. If they send him an e-mail asking him where he is, he just threatens to yell 'discrimination' really loudly.

Makes 90k a year btw.
:D

Man, I just don't know... not that I'm demanding, but how fucked up is to give yourself in for a job and some payment. You lose your entire freedom and social life. That's just so fucking retarded.

It is and it isn't. I mean, we've got plenty of jobs we need to keep society running and improving. But I feel as if there's so much meaningless bullshit people 'have' to do. Surely in our society of the future we will strive towards fewer working hours.

There were some experiments in Sweden iirc where people worked for 6 hours for like 2 months. Everything proved to be positive: they had less stress, they were far more productive etc. Project disappeared cause they didn't want to keep funding it, despite being positive, they were thrown back to regular 8 hour shifts and only then they realized how stressful it is, they were getting headache quite often and were less productive.

Having said that, I doubt our generations were feel anything different. Poor countries will just become slave labors and that's about it.

We had that society, a couple of decades ago

Nowadays, at least in Europe, the trend is going towards working more hours in many cases.

Which is kinda stupid from a macroeconomic perspective imo, but oh well

I think our generations will be different. Most lawyers I know work during the weekend. So far I've always managed to avoid it and in fact it's a matter of principle for me.

It's basically exactly what you're talking about - only written about 80 years ago, by Keynes.

And I think such a scenario is definitely possible and one we should strive towards, but I'm far less optimistic concerning its realisation any time soon.

Because you have fucktards like @Zacheryah and @Bjerknes who believe everyone who doesn't work himself to death is lazy. And their voice is loud.

But there's also the question what's going to happen to jobs in the transport sector for example. Self driving cars / trucks are very near and they will be a reality eventually. What are we going to do with all that labour force?

But that's the entire crux of the liberalisation of the labour market: It works perfectly well for the well-educated elite. More flexible working hours & the possibility of e.g. choosing between a raise and more tome-off are a great thing for them.

But a huge bulk of the workforce, with little individual bargaining power in terms of education, skill, experience, desperately needs a strong political/trade union movement to make sure they don't get completely exploited. And that's what's lacking severely atm
