That is one gloriously horrible video. Cheaply made and homoerotic in a very uncool way even for the pastel t-shirts and frizzy hair of the 1980s.I don't know if it necessarily killed his career as much as the bubble-gumming of his music did.
That said, I have a running joke with my wife for the past 15 years. I tell her that every time we go back to Chicago and visit my folks, Billy Squier will be on the radio. It's one of the more bizarre radio obsessions I've found anywhere: Chicago and old Billy Squier.
Sure, radio formats are meant for people your and my age now, as we're the only dorks who might listen to radio anymore. And you can understand acts like AC/DC or Led Zeppelin or the Stones or Van Halen. But Billy Squier? The guy isn't even from Chicago (Massachusetts).
Sure enough, every time we've been back to Chicago without fail -- which is about 15 times over the past 15 years (and just last week) -- I've never lost that bet. Something weird about Chicago radio: they play Billy Squier just about every day as if it were still 1981.
