Yeah I know what you mean. If it at least provided a better quality or of it lasts longer... but it actually means nothing. Nowadays buying expensive means no quality, just a brand name. That's why I enjoy buying rather cheap clothes that 'copy' the big guys as I don't really care if a label says Zara or Armani.

Btw, I did notice that. People are usually like 'wooow he bought a watch worth 5k euros'. But that's somebodys month worth of salary. It's like us mortals buying a 250/500e watch, no? Same goes for a car or even clothes. And even a house.

Now that I mention it... it's such a shit state here at the moment. It's only getting worse and worse. We also have IMF coming with a new deal to fuck us over. Investing in a house here is impossible. Not only we need 10k immediately to even consider it, but monthly paying whole wages for 20 years in order to get a house? Hell, we can even get fired over the night so you basically lose everything. I really... don't understand this world. Sure, I get that we need to bow down to oligarchy but seriously... wtf.
:agree: I'd much rather get cheap clothes and save that money for something that will truly give me happiness.

By focusing on happiness itself you can lead a much better life than those who focus on convenience, luxury, and following the lead of the financially illiterate herd that is the TV-ad-absorbing middle class of the United States today (and probably most countries, I even see it in Bolivia). Happiness comes from many sources but none of these sources involve car or purse upgrades. No matter what the herd or the TV set tells you, this is the truth, at least to me.

Buying things makes me unhappy. I don't know why, can't offer an explanation for it, but I always feel sad after shopping. Only things I enjoy buying are food and drinks :).

I think these are things that are bound to change. At some point technolgy will make it so that producing a whole range of itmes will be very cheap. 3D printers as well will make specialty items cheaper. Of course I might be very wrong about it, but I can see prices dropping fast.

As for the house.. The way it is now is so absurd that it is bound to change.
I don't see that happening simply because it's not in the interest of the buy boys that play the game. Like we can already provide alternative natural energy sources, but why, when they can't grab money from it like now.

This time rather looks like starting an era of feudalism. Everything cycles back, no? :p

What makes you happy?

I think it's easy to be happy but people are rotten inside-out following mainstream media which confuses them so they set fake objectives just because 'it's cool'.

How do you see yourself in 10 years, have you ever thought about that? People here usually live from today to tomorrow. No idea if people abroad think differently in order to set a future happier.

I don't really have a 10 year plan. I do try to think of where I'll be 2 years from now. But I think that in 10 years too many things can happen in order to really prepare for them.

How many lawyers do we have on Tuz? Jem, Seven, Red and I'll be one in a couple of years :D
If you're smart, but don't like numbers, you study law :D.

Mountain biking, football, playing football, girls, travelling, friends. All of those are inexpensive "hobbies" (maybe except for travelling but you can go to so many places near your home that are beautiful and still have a great time).

I know you're into books so when I would recommend you this one: "“A Guide to the Good Life, The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy”. The core of the philosophy in the book seems to be this: To have a good and meaningful life, you need to overcome your insatiability. I pretty much live by that.

And to finish a nice quote :D “The more pleasures a man captures, the more masters he will have to serve” (maybe that's why Seven feels bad when spending money)

There's some truth in that. When I buy an iPad for example, I get depressed because I now have to make sure the iPad doesn't get scratched. Which is inevitable.

Lawyers and economics are coming out of everywhere.

Ineffective as hell. :p
So true :D But I think things are changing in Bolivia. Not too many people are studying law nowadays but the market is still flooded with lawyers.

I actually studied finances for a semester but I really despised math :D So, I decided to study law (I should've done that from the beginning but I thought there were too many lawyers). Now that I'm studying law I realize that it was the right choice for me (I became a top student) so I hope I can land a good job! I already had a job at a big ass corporate law firm but fuck them, I was unhappy there.

I do love books. But I honestly hate that type of books. :D I never fancied 'this is how you should live' and follow this guide type of crap. I believe everyone should make their own path while some things are just childish and everyone should know them by the age of 10, so I don't see the point of reading that stuff. I'm more of a true literature type of a guy. But yeah, I know what you mean, I guess that's all it matters.

Don't know where the fuck is this world going but all I see is people working (literally) 12 hours a day. And even on Saturdays many go to work. When you count the sleep it basically leaves nothing. I remember like 10 years ago my mom always arrived on time and we all had more time. But now they are all working for a whole day, looks like a torture. She sometimes hit 15h mark on her job and sometimes even works at home. I think that's just nuts..

Many great minds of the past died with the thought 'I have worked all my life. Why?'. I guess it can be used at this point.

I'm not actually a lawyer.

I studied law and now I'm studying Oil and Gas Law, but there's no paricular prospect of me going through the process to be considered a properly qualified lawyer.

Not that that would stop me practising law in many areas.

You just described how I feel, which is why I made early retirement my goal in life, as ridiculous as that may sound but I actually have a plan. My plan B is having my own business. It's not about money, you can see that I don't really care about money and luxury. It's about freedom.

And before you guys say I'm crazy... I was inspired by my mom's friend who along with her husband retired early working 2 normal jobs.

That's the way to go if you wanna have lots of :money: if things go well.

Then again... I hardly met a person that recommends starting his own business. You're fooled if you think you're gonna chill while money drops in your pocket. It's way too demanding and stressful. I can guarantee that.

It's because work takes your mind off things. You don't have to think about what you really want to do in life. Try it, it's not that easy to figure out.

I know how that goes. My 30 year old brother is a successful businessman and he had to work hard for it but he still tries to wake up that little entrepreneur in me because hey, you're working extra hard but you're working for yourself.

I think it partly depends on how you do it.

Folk I know who are self-employed are generally lawyers and accountants who've spent a lot of time working at a firm before deciding to set up on their own.

That means they have a reputation and some of their clients will follow them, which gives you a pretty good start compared to genuinely starting from scratch.

Not only it depends how you do it but it depends what you wanna do.

What you said is one example. The other is starting something you're not so fond of (like opening a restaurant etc.). But either way it's easier to have good/strong contacts before entering the unknown.

However everything here is unstable so I'm not sure it's smart to start anything, especially without a capital, since banks are butt-raping everyone. Plus the corruption.. oh boy.

The time where no one works is not too far off, so we'd better start thinking about what we want to do in life.
There's no way it's gonna catch our generations.

Unless you're talking about an eternal soul that never dies. :D
