So am sitting with my two boys on a bench inside a shopping complex & some fella sitting near us looks relieved as his girlfriend decides to do the shopping solo. The fella whips out his ipad & starts playing chess. Am all beat & he sees that my boys are full of energy so he let's them try some games on his ipad. The boys look at me for approval & I give the ok. He has tries to teach them some musical apps & we strike a conversation while the boys are playing. He's into music & has some nice apps. Just then his girlfriend comes back. We thank him & wave goodbye. They leave & after a while a man in his 50's walks by & stops. "What beautiful children you have there." He says in Swedish. I smile back & say thank you. He then asks if I speak Swedish. I nod & he continues. "I really hope they are allowed to stay in this country & become citizens here. We need more such beautiful kids." I thank him once again too weary to tell him that they were born in Sweden. He asks me if the kids would like some ice cream. I say no while my youngest shouts yes! I assure the old man that it is not necessary & thank him again. So where am I going with this? Just wanted to highlight how small gestures from total strangers leave a lasting impression.
Hehe cute. Had similar encounter in train today, extremely over friendly (for swedes) older couple. Where you by any chance in Kista galleria?

Index funds usually have lower management fees since they're not actively managed. Also, they trade much less, so turnover ratio is lower (making capital gains taxes lower).

Of course there are mutual fund managers who may outperform or meet the market indexes (DODFX got amazing result during the last five years). As there are other managers who can barely keep up with market indexes or not even that. However, I don't trust people and you actually have to do your homework before choosing a manager.

Index funds tend to outperform mutual funds in the long run. I feel it's a safer option.
There are a lot of adverse draw backs to ETF's though, especially from slippage. Something such as SPY intends to follow the S&P500, but when the market crashes, you lose even more. So it's not an exact correlation whatsoever. I have been on the wrong side of that trade before.

Of course you need to find a good fund for mutual funds, but even with a lower beta you can still outperform the market.

Hell, they don't even need a Black Friday sale at Wal-Mart.
That's like 0.2% of an American citizen by the numbers, so essentially someone from Kansas lost a finger, comparatively.
