You are from the US, so by default all treaties and conventions are just pieces of paper to you.....

I was about to say why dont you just travel with your ID, Greece is EU, but realized Macedonia isnt in it. Just buy a provisional passport, those can be done in few hours, will expire within half a year and are more costly then regular, but whataheck.

It is the first time i have heard of a thing like "provisional passport". I googled to see if there is such a thing in my country and only found that term in relation to a Macedonian loosing his/hers passport in a foreign country. When this happens, the person should go to the embassy where he/she will receive a "temporary passport".
