What was wrong with Morsi? Wasn't he elected?
The masses that have been protesting against morsy for the last 4/5 days are different/more than the usual protesting faces of before. The 25th of Jan 2011 revolution had masses from the liberal left and the Islamists together against the regime. The silent non-political majority of Egyptians were cynical back then and were largely okay with Mubarak (they've done nothing for 30 years of his rule) as he kept the status quo on all fronts for 30 years and they were used to him and his stability.

Mubarak was ousted and about 16 months followed under military control where elections were made. The first round had five candidates one of which was an ex-army general and the minister of aviation under Mubarak and his prime minister during his last days. This man (Ahmed Shafick) got the highest number of votes during the 1st round (thanks to the same silent majority) and Morsy came in second by a good margin as he won all the islamist votes.

In the build up to the second round, the brotherhood knew that they couldn't outnumber the silent majority with their Islamist fan base only and so they made plenty of promises to the revolutionary leftist movements and it worked. The movements, though liberal and leftist, voted for Morsy the Islamist based on his promises. He also promised (during his elections campaign) that he'd bring security and the economy back to Mubarak-era levels within 100 days of his rule. After the 100 days are over, he promised, things will be even better than before.

His campaign was successful winning all islamist votes + most liberal votes + some of the silent majority that believed he'd bring everything back to their beloved status quo within a 100 days. He received 51.4% of the total votes barely making it into office.

Once he was into office, he reneged on his promises to all the liberal and secular as well as other Islamist parties and kept all power within the hands of his brotherhood's members. He then attacked the judiciary and the private media ferociously to bring it under his control while ousting the heads of the military. In reaction, the disillusioned opposition (both liberal and islamist), the revolutionary youth movements and the media united against him. He fought many battles at the same time so he (and the brotherhood) ended up isolated alone against a united everyone else.

His occupation all year with these political battles wreaked havoc on the Egyptian economy. We have had a USD crisis for the last few months, a consistently recurring electricity shortage, water shortage and most importantly gas shortage that kept the whole transportation system frozen for a week. Inflation kept flying higher as a result of the Egyptian pound's collapse and the shortage of USD in the market meant we couldnt import as much goods as before. Security was non-existed as the crime rate more than tripled. The silent majority's life as well as everyone else's has been increasingly getting fucked after having been used to Mubarak's long stable reign.

A new youth movement called "Tamarod", which translated to "rebel" started gathering people's signatures to oust Morsy and announced the 30th of June as the date of rebelling. The media made sure everyone was aware of the horrible year we've had and that the 30th would be a revolution day. and Bam! he was out!

In short, this is a president that barely made it to office who wouldnt have won th elections had he not made political promises to opposition parties and economic promises to the silent majority of Egyptians. He broke both of those promises and the opposition made sure all the pissed off people demonstrated at the same day. The army welcomed it and used it to kick him out.

we are anticipating a violent backlash from the Islamists and for this reason the army will be joining the police in providing security. Tomorrow/Today the head of the highest court in egypt will be declared temporary president and a government made up of all the opposition parties will be installed temporarily. The opposition will also elect a committee to revise constitutional amendments (Morsy passed his constitution illegally and that was part of his battle with the judiciary)

Temporarily as in until new presidential elections are made.

Finding out that there is a kebab diner in every corner here in Dusseldorf :p

Never been to one because of fucking Canada and I'm broke. But yo, you don't like checking out new artists and what not?
I do, I know all the Jamaican artists and some of the European ones (two favs in Gentleman and Alborosie), so kinda have to prioritise who I want to see since its such a tight schedule. The newer or lesser artists I don't know are earlier on the day with no one else playing, so will see them no problem.

Looking forward to seeing Chronixx and Protoje the most, as new artists I haven't seen before.
