Don't kill yourself.

Mine is fine, just another day but with nicer food!

Kill myself? Jeff Buckley and red wine is euphoric.

Aye nice food, i'm cooking slow cooked and brined corn fed free range chicken legs (loosens the sinews and makes them jucier, the lower temp allows the juices to cook the meat from the incide) with a rich mustard and brandy sauce :tuttosport:.

How's this?

Not only is it Valentine's Day, but it's my mother-in-law's birthday. She died last week after losing a 20-month battle with cancer.

So my wife -- as she often does on Valentine's Day -- wanted to celebrate her mother's birthday with a dinner out. Except this time her mom cannot be with us for the first time in my wife's life. And Valentine's Day is "amateur night" at restaurants -- every restaurant poser in town has booked up all the available tables at every place in advance for holiday-gouging rates and special dinners that involve red hearts, flowers, cherubs and smarmy sentimentality on a plate.

Fortunately the Sardinian restaurant down the block was able to accommodate us due to a late cancellation. But even though the owners are very cool and knew my mother-in-law, we're still going to be toasting a slightly more sober occasion surrounded by amateurs.

I'm buying some extra-good wine to ensure we have a good time. But that will be my Valentine's Day.

It's a lovely occasion to remember someone by. I'm glad you have one another, and extra-good wine :)

Without wishing to speak down on someone older and wiser than me, i went through this when i was 18 and picked up a lot. If you want any advice/expectations then pm me. Its not easy and the desensitization is the worst part of it, guess its just life.
Age and experience has nothing to do with it -- we all have life experiences that others haven't quite had. Thanks for the offer. :)

What happens on Ascension Day again?
I thought you Swedes got the day off to crash your Volvos head-on and ascend into Zlatan heaven.
