I just always had a hard time there, the mainstream culture seems to be overpoweringly representative of everything I don't like (nationalism, pride at the expense of others, in your face religion, capitalism, consumerism, etc.). It's just always in your face, and I know full not everyone is like this, but you just can't escape it there. A lot of this likely has to do with my high school experiences, and my father's extended overly Christian family ostracising other family members for being foreign. Not my kind of place.

I think that experience would sour anyone but not all of the US is like that

I did enjoy my time in the U.S. except for some racist pricks but they got their ass served in silver plates after they fucked with the hispanic community.
i have no problem at all with racists getting what's coming to them. if i had the opportunity, i'd consider beating a nazi/racist/extreme bigot to an inch of his life a fine hobby.
