From some short sniffing around on the internet, it seems that you indeed need to apply for a IDL to drive in USA.

Nobody does learning much for learning's sake, though. Nobody would pay just to take courses. Universities, etc., are purely validation systems. Without the piece of paper, nobody would bother. Universities want to get all high and mighty about the prestige of higher education, but the fact is people would wipe their asses with their education if not for the piece of paper that comes at the end. Higher education is a validation service more than anything else.

Yeah. I've done that from the US overseas. Depends on the reciprocal relationships between T&T an the US for how much of a headache that might be.

That said, a driver's license hasn't exactly stopped people from driving in this country either.
