My condolences, Kate.

Based on your response, do you think it was medically mishandled?
I think the fault lies a bit with both the hospital and the patient. He had a relatively rudimentary procedure earlier this month to remove some cancerous cells, and we found out today he died on Friday morning of gangrene of the colon. Basically, he was in immense pain after the surgery but didn't tell anyone out of pride or whatever.

I'm just angry because he is one of those people who had finally found an honest happiness in life, and was one of the kindest people I had ever met.

And thank you boys, it does mean a lot.

That completely sucks. But if there's a silver lining, it sounds like he left this world with his heart and head in the right place. I only wish that for all my relatives.

Pain is a weird one. Some people are complete wimps, while others try to bear through whatever comes at them. I lost a grandfather and a great aunt who went in for "routine" procedures. Hospitals being what they are for very sick people, you unfortunately never know for sure.

You are right in that regard. He had everything he ever wanted when he went, I just wish they could have spent more time together (he married for the first time at 50 and they were inseparable). My dad went in for a routine procedure as well and never came out, ever since I am very wary of any kind of surgery. But it happens, and after it's over the only people who hurt are the ones who are still alive.
