Any technologically smart people around? Say I wanna download a torrent with book solutions in it and found a few on torrent.net. Any way to tell they're safe and my computer won't blow up after downloading them?
Read the comments on the site where the torrent is being hosted. If the torrent has viruses, there would *usually* be a few people posting about it and rating it low so that others won't download it. But MOST importantly, you need to get your torrents from reliable torrent sites. That is the key.
Oh, and try to avoid torrents where the files are zipped into an archive, like .zip or .rar. Choose ones where the files are not zipped and free to download individually. That'll help too.
